THE BATTALION.
39
and the game-was delayed 1 until 11 a., ni.
Captain Shultz won the choice of goals
and the ’Varsity boys: kicked the hall to
A. and M.’s 15-yard line. Brown got it
and brought it back twenty yards. Both
sides line up quickly and A. and M. be
gins to buck the line and the ball is car
ried up the field for a few yards and
’Varsity gets the ball on downs. ’Var
sity calls close formation and tries A.
and M.’s tackles, but are forced to kick,
and Shultz brings the ball back ten
yards before being downed. Here A. and
M showed how she had been coached,
and by bucking the line and running
around the ends had the boys from the
’Varsity guessing where they were going
and it looked as if College would surely
win. Brown started the ball going by
going through tackle three yards. Shultz
was then bucked through the same place
for four more yards. Shultz again goes
through center for two yards. Tackles
are called right and Hyde goes around
end for twenty yards. Gray adds three
yards by bucking the line; then tackles
and halves are called to the left and
Shultz dashes around Shreiner’s end for
thirty yards. Hyde is given the ball and
goes around opposite end for eight yards
more. A. and M. then goes to bucking
the line, in which Shultz, Brown, Gray,
Winert, Moseley, Thrower and Hyde did
excellent work, but ’Varsity braces up
on her 20-yard line and hold A. and M.
for downs.
’Varsity tries the line twice, but is
forced to kick, and the ball lands on A.
and' M.’s 45-yard line and rolls out of
bounds. A. and M. brings, in fifteen yards
and starts to bucking the line again, but
is forced to kick. The ball is snapped
back and it is muddy and slippery and
it was fumbled, and Shultz picks it up
and tries to kick it, but it is blocked and
rolls down on A. and M.’s 6-yard line,
where DeLesdenier falls on it.
A. and M. now lines up and determines
to hold, but the muddy ground had them
handicapped and by fierce bucking ’Var
sity just managed to get the ball over
the line in five downs. Schreiner failed to
kick goal. Score. 5 to 0.
A. and M. now kicked off the ball, but
there was very little playing before time
was up for the first half.
In the second half neither side could
make much headway, and the result was
a kicking game, in which the honors
were about evenly divided, and the game
was ended with the ball on A. and M.’s
30-yard line.
The line-up was as follows:
