It is rumored that be is soon to join the ranks of the benedicts. & £ Captain Fowler’s march after Gen eral Alejandrino’s brigade, with one company of the Twenty-third regi ment, was one of the bravest incidents of the war. The company left Dagu- pan alone under orders to locate the enemy. Captain Fowler had been warned by the natives that he and his men would be exterminated. The guides deserted them before Manga- tarom (or Mangalaren) was reached. All of Alejandrino’s artillery was fo cussed upon the main street along which they advanced. The guns were manned by Spaniards, who said after ward that they had fired over the heads of the Americans, as they de sired that the latter should win, hop Teacher:—“How do .you pro nounce Caesar in English and Latin?†Sophomore:—“Sieze ’er and kiss ’er.â€â€”Ex. £ * Boy (reading):—“Father, how do yez pronounce I-l-o-i-l-o?†Father:—“Pronounce it?
