THE BATTALION.
Melguard says: “Bruce, are
you going to get you a pair of
those $4 shoes for 25 cents?”
Miss is going to give up
her primary school and take a
class of seniors.
Mrs. Love of Franklin, Texas,
recently visited her son, Prof. A.
C. Love.
The students are invited to
sympathize with a quiet and pleas
ant professor of the college who,
while in San Antonio, occupied a
seat near the door of a crowd
ed cable car when a master
ful stout woman entered. Hav
ing no newspaper behind which
to hide, he was fixed and subju
gated by her glittering eye. He
rose and offered his place to her.
Seating herself without thanking
him, she exclaimed in strident
tones that reached to the farther-
est end of the car, “Say, what do
you want to stand up there for?
Come here and sit down on my
lap.” “Madam,” gasped the
professor, as his face became
scarlet, “I am not deserving of
such an honor.” “What do you
mean, you dude,” shrieked the
woman. “You know very well.I
was speaking to my niece there
behind you.”
“Babe” Astin has again re
turned to College. He was a mem
ber of class of ’99 and is now tak
ing a post graduate course in M.
E. We are all glad to see Mr.
Astin back with us. He is al
ways welcome, especially in foot
ball circles, where he is known as
“Switch Engine.”
Melguard is all smiles. Biering
is all frowns. What has hap
pened?
In the football game with Se-
wanee at Houston several acci
dents happened to our team which
are regretted very much. Kid
Prather, the star little end of
ours, was seriously injured, his
knee being badly sprained. “Old
Reliable” Kildow met with the
same “pleasant surprise.” The
boys stayed in the hospital for a
few days, but are now again seen
on the gridiron upholding the red
and white. Nothing can keep an
A. and M. out of the game.
Fish, sentinel: “Why don’t
you report?” Old Boy: “I
won’t unless you challenge.”
Fish, sentinel: “I don’t want to
fight.”
Here’s to Captains Luhrsen and
Simpson. May the one’s pillow
be soft and the colors of the other
be fast.
Professor: “Mr. Brim, what
is sound?” Brim: “Sound are
those vibrations of a body which
affect the vocal organs.”
Nature seldom makes a fool.
She simply furnishes the raw ma
terial and lets the fellow finish
the job to suit himself.
Wheeler, speaking to a couple
of boys, says: “You are past re
forming and should study phar
macy.”
Sherer jollied Fitz much about
the sandwiches.
Boettcher: “I took my lady
to church last night.” High Pri
vate: “What was the text?”
Boettcher: “Love ye one an
other:”
Matthews: “Professor, what
is the difference of the weight be
tween mercury and quicksilver?”
