HORTICULTURAL... URING this year the Depart ment of Horticulture, Bot any and Entomology was divided into three departments. Prof. Price had been recommending this division of the department dur ing the past seven years, so that the work could expand and grow more along special lines. The last legislature passed a law creating the office of state ento mologist, whose duty it shall be, among other things, to teach en tomology in the A. and M. Col lege. Prof. F. W. Mally, M. S., was elected to this position and begins work in the college this session. The Board separated Entomology from Horticulture and Botany and assigned it to Prof. Mally. Afterwards the Board separated Botany from Horticulture and made a separate department of this subject also. Prof. H. Ness, M. S., was elected to this department. This leaves the subjects of Horticulture and Mycology in one department and these are now being taught by Prof. Price and Prof. A. M. Fer guson, M. S., who has been elected assistant horticulturist. Prof. Ferguson is a post-graduate of the Horticultural department of this college. He has taken special work with Prof. T. V. Munson and also spent two years at the famous Shaw Botanical Garden of St. Louis. The new Agricultural and Hor ticultural building that will soon be commenced on the campus will afford the Horticultural de partment room—-much needed at present—for expansion. There will be seven large rooms assign ed to this department for labora tories, class rooms, offices, can nery, evaporator, marmalade fac tory, pickle factory and jelly fac tory. In addition to these rooms the Horticultural department will have a half interest in a cold stor age room, museum, library and photographic room. Work is now being planned to put in a modern horticultural equipment to cost $2000, which will consist of the latest scientific apparatus for instruction and experiment in vegetable pathology, as well as horticulture. A large green house will be built for plant forcing, sub-irrigation and study of plant diseases. Arrangements will be made to carry on horticultural practice in the green house or laboratory, irrespective of the
