The preceding - lines bearing on the Board were taken
from a circular letter sent out by the executive committee
of the Alumni Association.
An appropriation of $5,000 was made to employ an
Entomologist, and to be used by him in waging war on
injurious insects, especially the boll weevil.
This Specialist is a member of the Faculty and will
teach Entomology.
The Board met immediately after the passage of the
bill and elected F. W. Malty, of Hulen, Texas. Prof.
Malty was recently connected with the Department of
Agriculture at Washington, D. (J., and is a specialist in
his line of work.
Mr. Wayland next introduced a bill “For the better
protection of the farmer in the purchase of commercial
fertilizers and for other purposes.”
This law requires samples of all commercial fertilizers
and poisonous insecticides to be sent to the professor of
chemistry of the A. & M. College for analysis before it can
be offered for sale in this State.
While the manufacturer or dealer is charged a fee,
the farmer may, under certain conditions, send samples for
analysis free of charge.
The maintenance appropriation was increased $900,
making $20,900 instead of $20,000 heretofore given.
Other appropriations were as follows: Agricultural
and Horticultural building and equipment, $31,000; Bar
racks and equipment, $28,000; Sewerage system, $5,000;
