machine shops. Mr. S. R. Tuggle, superintendent of mo
tive power and machinery for the Houston and Texas Cen
tral, was so much impressed with what he saw there that
he will endeavor to put a locomotive at the disposal of the
students provided a spur is built from the station to the
machine shops and barns. This will tend to give the
students a practical knowledge of locomotive engineering
and a determined effort to build the spur and secure the
engine will be made.

The visit of the members of the Railway club and their
friends had a social as well as a business side. The re
ception given at the residence of President Poster and the
ball in the new mess hall at night, were both highly en
joyable, the latter being made all the more so through the
efforts of the cadets, all of whom did their utmost to pro
vide pleasure for their guests. They succeeded admirably.
Much credit is due in this connection to Cadets R. B.
Boettcher, T. D. Bell, T. H. Clement, L. Fitzgerald, T. W.
Griffiths, R. W. Cousins, A. C. Love, W. H. Whisenant,
A. M. Sloss and W. F. Dwyer.
Amusing incidents during the day were plentiful. A
badger fight, at which a well known railway supply man
was the center of interest, was one of these, and a prac
tical joke, played on Mr. Jos. G. Miller of St. Louis was
another. Mr. Miller attended the ball clad in faultless
evening dress except as to his pedal extremities, one of
which was encased in a heavy, thick-soled English “bull-
