18 THE BATTALION. leg’e and to remove it from political influences and control., it is necessary that the law be changed, and the term of office be fixed at a period that will insure the presence on the Board,, at all times, of a majority of members with ex perience in the administration of the affairs of the Collegfe, and conversant with its needs; otherwise, no policy that may be adopted can be carried out before the terms of of fice of the Board will have expired and a new Board appointed. In his last messag-e to the Legislature, Gov. Culber son recommender that the present law governing- the ap pointment of the Directors of the A. & M. College be chang-ed; and accordingly bills have been introduced in the Legislature by Senator John A. Wayland of Robert son county and Representative Henderson of Brazos coun ty which eliminate that feature of the old law which ren dered it unconstitutional, and providing- for a board of eig-ht directors, who shall hold their offices for two. four, six, and eig-ht years from date of appointment, and pro viding- that the terms of two directors shall expire every two years. Under this law there will always be six experienced directors on the Board, and the Colleg-e g-overnment will be made independent of every consideration except its own interest in the administration of the affairs of the In stitution. This measure meets with the approval of friends of the Colleg-e who have given thoug-ht to the mat ter and, if ag-reeable to you, we hope that you will write at once to your senator and. representative in the Legisla-
