An Adventure With a Mummy,

I T WAS a cold rainy evening when Warren Sheffield opened
the door of his room and entered. The apartment was
well furnished, and with that taste, which to the casual eye
of an observer, bespoke a certain refinement and care that is
unusual among the students of King College. On the walls
were arranged various athletic trophies, such as flags and
pennants, and above the mantel two fencing foils were cross
ed over a bag containing a pair of boxing gloves; and on the
other side of the room in a vacant corner, dumb bells and
Indian clubs hung from a rack. Indeed, this would seem to
be the home of some enthusiastic athlete, and to look at the
owner, one’s suspicions might be verified. Tall, well knit,
with broad shoulders and deep chest, Sheffield looked every
inch the crack athlete that he was; and even today the un-
