THE BATTALION. 37 we look forward to the time when we may lose his services on the board. Long may he continue as the honored and re spected president of our board of directors. ♦ ♦ ♦ Hon. D. A. Paulus, by the warm interest he has shown in the welfare of the college while he was a member of the board of directors, has endeared himself to the Alumni and Alpha Phi. We hope to see him a frequent visitor to the college and whenever we call upon him in behalf of the col lege he will not fail to respond. It is with regret that we part with him as a member of our directory. ♦ ♦ ♦ Hon. J. B. Long by his work on the board and by his toast at the banquet has also won the hearts of the Alumni. And in the future, when we “dip you up” we know you will serve us as efficiently in the future as you have in the past. ♦ ♦ ♦ Hon. G. W. Bowman of Plano, was “the silent” mem ber and no doubt in his quiet way he served the college efficiently and well. Banquet, The alumni banquet given on Monday night, and in which, by invitation, the members of the Alpha Phi frater nity participated, was a notable social event. The spread, prepared by a Houston caterer, was elegant and the wines rare and inspiring. With that courtly manner which has made him famous with college men, Prof. W. B. Philpott presided at the head of the table, set for one hundred, as toast master. Hon. W. L. Dean, representative from Madison county, responded to “The Finance Committee of the House,” of which he is a member. Mr. Dean spoke fluently for ten minutes, and said, among other things, that the finance com mittee regarded the Agricultural and Mechanical college most
