Twenty Years of A. & M. College Existence.
Texas has rapidly advanced during the
last twenty years in all matters appertain
ing to education. There is scarcely an
institution of learning within the state,
that has not enlarged its facilities and ex
tended its usefulness. Indeed, many
splendid institutions have been founded and grown to great
efficiency during this period. They are scattered throughout
the state. Our free school system by judicious care, has been
advanced to a high rank and in all things educational, great
improvement is obvious. In the march of progress made by
the state it may well be claimed that education occupies the
front rank.
In this procession of material growth and greatness the
Agricultural and Mechanical college has been a prominent ban
ner bearer.
Occupying a new- and untried field, hampered by prejudices,
retarded by criticisms of the uninformed and beset by many
