The two societies met in their respective halls the last Saturday night before commencement and the officers that had been elected for the first term of next session were initiated, after which the Austin Society adjourned to the Calliopean Society hall to celebrate the annual love feast, assembled to hear the members of the two societies tell in It seemed as if the grace and beauty of all Texas had eloquent and pathetic words their regrets at parting. Besides the many beautiful ladies, almost all the cadets were present, making in all the largest and most enthusi astic audience tlmt had ever been seen before in the societv hall. Almost every member made a short speech, and upon the unanimous request of all. Colonel Harrison, our popular bookkeeper, favored us with an address in which he showed so plainly that tt child could not have mistaken his words, that although a cadet may graduate with the highest honors or attain the highest rank in the corps of cadets, yet if he does not take an active part in the societies he has missed a golden opportunity that comes but once in a lifetime. Prospects were never brighter for the societies than they seem to be for next year, and with the earnest co-operation of every member success will crown our efforts. Immediately after the sham battle on commencement day, the Ross Volunteers donned their snow-white uniforms and repaired to the drill ground to delight the many visitors with the drills for which they are truly noted. The bayonet ex ercise, for which they have a state reputation, was perfect.
