After this. President Ross thanked the visitors for their
attendance during commencement, after which there were
cries for Culberson, when the Governor of our state arose
and addressed the graduates in a very beautiful speech.
The afternon exercises opened with the sham battle, which
was very realistic, the wounded being carried from the field
and the surviving ones fighting in the thickest part of the
battle.
The Ross Volunteers next put up one of the drills for
which they are so famous, and received round after round of
applause. The Ross Volunteer medal was won by Cadet
Viblo.
The closing military feature of the evening was the gradu
ating dress parade, after which commissions were conferred
upon the officers, and they were relieved from dutj*.
At 10 o’clock the grand march commenced and the com
mencement ball was at the height of its glory. The old mess
hall was tastefully decorated, and judging from the sea of
happy faces this commencement hop was one of the most
enjoyable features of the commencement in spite of the heat.
Thus ended the session of ’95-’9G, everyone pronouncing
it a grand success.
