E. \Y. Hutchison, ’89, who was chosen by acclamation
as a representative candidate by the Alumni Association
for the first vacancy which may occur in the Board of Di
rectors of 1lie A. and M. College of Texas, is more widely
and better known to the Association than any other mem
ber, graduating as Senior Captain in ’89; he served as book
keeper for the college till ’95, and for several years was
Secretary and Treasurer of the .Alumni .Association, and
has never missed a meeting since his graduation. These
various positions brought him in contact with the students,
the Alumni, the President, Governor L. S. Ross, the Board
of Directors, the Faculty, and various other officers of the
institution, and by the faithfulness, energy and ability with
which he discharged his duties lie won the warm personal
friendship of many and compelled the respect and esteem of
all. Severing his connection with the college in ’95 he
formed a partnership in the grocery business with Mr. J. S..
Radford, ’90, in which he has shown characteristic energy
and business ability.
His general views of life are broad, fair and just, and his
love and devotion to his alma mater has been constant and
deep. Where in all the broad State of Texas can we find a
man so peculiarly fitted to discharge the duties of a director
or who will watch and guard the interests of the college
with that loving care and eternal vigilance which can only
spring from a heart filled with associations and sweet
memories of his alma mater.
