DEBATE.
(Resolved : Thai the Study of Mathematics is more Im
portant than the Study of English.
The axis around which the question at issue revolves is in
seeking an education, which study should be regarded as more
important, the study of mathematics or of English.
I am convinced that mathematics is the more important
and trust to be able to prove the same satisfactorily from two
standpoints.
In doing so I shall ask, What is the meaning of educa
tion, and what is its scope and object ?
If we pause for a moment to try to find the definition of
