F. J. Mikeska, Kilgore, has been
named Chairman of the East Tex-
as Section of the American Petro-
leum Institute.
Elmore R, Torn, manager of the
agricultural department of the
East Texas Chamber of Commerce,
will serve the Cotton Committee
as secretary. Before entering the
armed services, Torn had been ac-
tively associated with cotton im-
provement for more than ten years.

Cotton Committee of Texas and
National Cotton Council.

Fred W. Erhard has been a-
warded the Legion of Merit cita-
tion, for performing exceptional
meritorious service from Septem-
ber 44 to April ’45 as Chief, Civ-

with the rank of Lt. Col., and is
‘now assistant director of the Ap-
prentice-Training Service, U. 8S.

Branch, U .S. Dept. of Agriculture,

Jr. a veteran of twenty months
service with the U. S. Army En-
gineer Corps, has received his dis-
charge and returned to Dallas to
set up business in landscape arch-
itecture. He was called to active
duty as a first lieutenant in 1941
as a camp site planner in the 8th
Zone Constructing Quartermaster
Corps at San Antonio. He was ex-
ecutive officer in the district en-
gineer’s office at Dawson Creek,
British Columbia, directing work
on the Alcan Highway before go-
ing overseas in 1944.

Les Peden, great pre-war bas-
ketball and baseball performer for
the Aggies, is back in school but
will not participate in basketball
this winter, He served in the
106th Infantry in Europe and rose

third baseman and will play his
last college ball this spring.
Wheeler E. Mosty returned from
service in Europe this last sum-
mer. He served with the Army
Engineers, and is working in the
Kerrville Post Office for the pres-
ent. . . . Capt. Clyde K. Voss is
stationed at March Field, River-
side, Calif, 27th PF. 8. "1st FF. G.,
and would like to hear from some
of his classmates. He is flying
P-80’s in the 1st Fighter Group.

Welton A. “Doc” Ruhmann, As-
sistant 4-H Culb Specialist for the
Texas A. & M. College Extension:
Service, and Class Agent for the
’37 Class, has been transferred
from headquarters staff, and will
take the position of county agri-
cultural agent for Tarrant County.
His first Extension appointment
was that of assistant county agric.
agent-at-large for Presidio coun-
ty, and served as county agent for
Comanche County until he entered
the army in 1942. During his four
years of military service, he spent
27 months in the Mediterranean
and European theaters and was
discharged as a Captain in Janu-
ary 1946.
R. “Pat” Coon was a visitor on
the campus in early December as
a representative of the United
Fruit Co. Coon was with the
Fruit Co. before the war and is
now serving as Assistant Supt. of
Agriculture and was on the cam-
pus to interview seniors with ref-
erence to possible employment with
his company. During the war
Coon was a plains-clothes officer
and served as Chief of Technical
Counter-Intelligence, Army For-
ces, Middle Pacific. His mailing

Horace S. McIlroy has been ac-
cepted by the War Department for

ial Mission for the European Air
Transport Service, and his wife

in Wiesbaden, Germany, in the

New York. Capt. Menzies’ organ-

flag carrier on the Continent, Be-
