CAMPUS 8500 Donors to 1946 Fund Break All Previous Records Smashing all previous Development Fund records, 8500 A&M men and friends of the College through their gifts to the 1946 Develop- ment Fund completed the $50,000 Gold Star Fund to extend educational opportunity to children of Aggies killed in service in World War II, and added $48,000 in bonds to the Memorial Student Center Fund. Contributing a total of $78,593.80, A&M men surpassed the 1945 fund by 892 contributors and last year’s total amount was bested by $4,219.73. Achieving the dual goals of the Gold Star Fund and the com- pletion of the Student Union Building Fund, the 1946 Develop- ment Fund, ranks as the most successful since the program was inaugurated. Plans are now being drawn for the Student Union Building and construction will start as soon as building materials become available. Tough Competition Down to Finish Line Honors in this year’s race were more evenly divided than ever before. There was no monopoly as has often been seen in the past. The forty classes led in total number of contributors. There was a difference of one between first and second place. 1942 had 647 con- tributors while 1943 had 646. New Deal in Class Standings Rebelling at the idea of the higher class standings going to the forty classes, Class Agent T. L. Smith. Jr., led the “dark horse” class of 1898 in to first place in the class standings. With 100% of its members contributing to the fund, the class of '98 set an all time record. It is the only class ever to have 100% of its members contri- bute to the fund. In jumping to the top of the heap, the class of "98 moved from 36th place in the previous fund report. Not to be outdone by the class of 98, Class Agent T. M. Smith of the ’01 Class piloted his class to second place in class standings with 72.4% of his class - contributing. They also rose from 18th place in the previous year’s report. Class Agent J. E. Pirie put on the pressure and brought the class of 1904 up from 24th place to 3rd place in the standings. Class of 1925 Bids for Top Successfully challenging the forty classes, Class Agent R. C. Armsrtong and the class of 1925 outdid themselves in the total amount of contributions. Finishing first among all the classes in amounts contributed, members of the 1925 class gave $6,307.00. The forty classes were right on their heels and no classes outside of the forty group were able to make a successful bid for the lead. The 1945 class leads in the increase in the number of con- tributors with 73 more donors than in the previous year. They were followed by 47 with a 54 increase, ’43 with 37 and ’46 with 34. The ’46 Fund at a Glance Friends, Associates and Clubs—All A&M men feel deeply grate- ful to those who join them in the fight to provide A&M College with facilities which it needs so badly. Hats Off to the Class of ’98—No class can have more than 100% of its members contribute to the Development Fund. We take our hats off to you and to Class Agent T. L. Smith, Jr. We hope to have more 100% classes in the future. To the Classes of ’01, 04 and ’08—You have demonstrated what classes can accomplish. We hope to see you stay at the top. Honor Classes—Twenty six classes were listed as honor classes with more than 50% of their members contributing. This is an all time high for honor classes. : To the Mothers and Wives who kept contributions coming from Aggies overseas, we say “thank you.” About This Fund Report This is the fourth annual report of the Texas A. & M. Development Fund, the only financial solicitation of the As- sociation of Former Students. It lists the names of individual donors by classes, class standings by percentage of contributors, and final totals and disposition of the Fund. Listing 8,500 men in their proper classes continues a tough job and one in which mistakes will occur. Look in adjacent classes if you are incorrectly listed and advise the Association office of the class with which you wish to be identified. If any donor’s name has been omitted please advise the office at once in order that the record may be corrected and your name added to a supplementary report in the next issue. Due to the rapidly shifting rank of men in military service those titles have been omitted. Your assistance in checking the record of contributors and proper class identification will be appreciated.
