for 5 years, Thomas Leslie Cullom,
Jr., has been released and at-
tended the Drilling Fluid Short
Course held on the campus in
June. He is located at Refugio,
Texas, where he is with the Stano-
lind Oil and Gas Company.
John R. C. McGowen has re-
turned to Panama and is getting
mail at Chiriqui Land Co., Puerto
Armuelles, Republic of Panama,
after seeing extension service.
He was manager of a banana
plantation in Panama when he
went into service in the Southwest
Pacific area with the 158th In-
fantry. From there he went in-
to the Alamo Scouts of the 6th
Army Headquarters, preceding a
number of amphibious landings,
scouting the way for our troops.
He was on the Admiralities Islands
24 to 48 hours before the landing
of the 1st Cav. Division and made
soundings of the coral reefs of
Noemfoor Island right under the
Jap’s noses. At last report he
had been decorated with the Sil-
ver Star, Bronze Star and Soldier’s
Medal.

back and recently released from military
service, has signed a two year contract to
play pro football with the Los Angeles
Dons of the All-American League.
He is at present making his home in
Houston. He and Mrs. Kimbrough have
a 19 months old son.
Marion Pugh has returned to Fort
Worth, 1202 N.W. 15th St., after spend-
ing several months at College taking spec-
ial work. He has signed up to play pro
football this fall with the Miami, Florida,
team of the New American League. In
the meantime he will work in Fort Worth
and start getting in shape for the big
season. He got in a few games with the
New York Yankees last fall followign his
return from extensive combat service in
the ETO. While on the campus this
spring he served as sports editor for the
Battalion and also did considerable radio
announcing.
Major Charles A. Bell is with Hq. Fourth
Air Force, 180 New Montgomery, San

has been attending the short course for
County Agents at the College. Before

The Air Medal has been posthumously
awarded to Lt. Keith Short, of Quanah,
Texas. Lt. Short was shot down by anti-
aircraft fire over the Bay of Bengal in
the early part of the war. His widow and
parents reside at Quanah.
James M. Carpenter is assistant county
agricultural agent at Wichita Falls.
Claude D. Emmons is assistant county
agricultural agent for Lamb county with
headquarters at Amherst.
Aaron B. Penland is serving as assistant

Lt. William D. Fitch, 6207 Bryan Park-
way, Dallas has been released from the
Army after 19 months overseas duty.
Fitch was with the 612th Field Artillery,
part of the Mars Task Force, which open-
ed the Burma Road. For the last year
he was in China.
A. R. Grote, Jr. is on the campus tak-
ing the two months refresher county

Major W. Brown Caughran was released
from service in May after five years duty
