Formerly Captain, now Mr. Bar-
ney B. Taylor, and a native of
Belton, Texas, was presented with
the nation’s second highest award,
the Distinguished Service Cross,
in a ceremony at Arkansas U. S.
Army Recruiting District recently.
He worked for 7 years prior to the
war on the staff of the Washington
Newspaper Guild. While on the
mission, for which he received the
award, Taylor sustained injuries
which resulted in the loss of sight
of one eye and his right leg being
partially crippled. Taylor is pre-
sently living at the LaFayette
Hotel, Little Rock, Arkansas.

ing officer of the new submarine
USS TUSK. Commander Moore at-
tended A&M from 1931 to 1934
before entering the Naval Acad-
emy. Graduating from the Acad-
emy in 1938, he was assigned to
the USS Pennsylvania, where he
served until 1940. He then enter-
ed the submarine school at New
London, Conn. In 1945 he was as-
signed to duty with the Strategic
Survey Committee of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, as Aide to the Sen-
ior Navy Member. He has par-
ticipated in 11 submarine war
patrols and wears the Bronze Star,
Army Distinguished Unit Badge,
National Defense Service Ribbon
(with Fleet Clasp), American Area
Campaign ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific
Campaign ribbon (with three com-
bat stars), World War II Victory
Ribbon and the Philippine Defense
Ribbon. Commander Moore will

Colquitt, Houston, a Marine since
1935, has been awarded the Legion
of Merit and a special commenda-
tion for action on Okinawa and
Honshu, Japan. The Legion of Merit
was awarded for his performances
while commanding a Marine In-
fantry battalion on Okinawa. The
commendation was given for his
duties as regimental executive of-
Ficer prior to the landing on Hon-
shu.

So far as is known Rodney
Chambless, recognized as the
state’s youngest sheriff, scored
a first on May 31st when he re-
ceived his Master’s Degree in Ag-
ricultural Education from the A.
& M. College. He is the only
sheriff who ever held a full-time
sheriff’s job to carry a full course
in college simultaneously. Chamb-
less is completing his second term
as Sheriff of Madisonville, Texas,
and during that time has received
two degrees from A. & M. College,
the first being a B. S. in Agricul-
ture in 1937.

recovered from an attack of men-
ingitis, and they are all very hap-
pily situated in Norman.

Woody Bell, after extensive ac-
tive duty, is playing professional
baseball once more and is an out-
fielder with the San Antonio Mis-
sions of the Texas League. Class-
mates will never forget a famous
home run hit by Bell the last half
of the 9th in the final game of the
’38 season against Texas. His line
drive over the right field fence
was good for the baseball champ-
ionship.
Joe B. Randol lives at 607 Bay-

for an electrical contracting com-

Harley Bebout was discharged
recently from the army with the
rank of Captain and is living at
Hopkins, Missouri. He married
an English girl in December but
we failed to find out the young
lady’s name.
