Slay has a son who expects to en- ter A. & M. in Sept. after military service. Lefty has made his home in Shiro for many years. Major General A. D. Bruce and the City of Temple recently ex- changed gifts of appreciation. Gen, Bruce established and commanded Camp Hood, near Temple, before going overseas. He is now Com- manding General of the 7th Divi- sion. Bruce presented the city a Jap Imperial sword and the citi- zens of that city presented the General and his family with a sil- ver service. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas are living at Alpine. Ivan Langford, Bryan banker, is rejoicing over the arrival of his son, Ivan Langford, Jr. ’47 from overseas service. Leland, San Ped- ro, Calif. is Grand Knight, of the Knights of Columbus, of that city. 1920 H. N. Glezen | 4207 Highland, Beaumont The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Babcock, Box 1964, Beaumont, deeply sympathize with them in the death of their son, John, from Leukemia on May 22. An older brother, Lt. Charles L. Babcock, Jr., ’43, was Killed in a jeep accident last September. The two boys were the Babcock’s only children. Dr. Donald V. Shuhart, recover- ing from serious injuries in the Walter Reed General Hospital, Ward 1, Washington 12, D. C., de- nies that even a Ph.D. would think up the source of his trouble. He was in the CBI heading a big pro- gram of soil conservation when he was severely mauled by a tiger. Shuhart shot the hugh cat but failed to kill him and the tiger jumped upon Shuhart knocking him on his back. He raised his rifle and prevented the tiger from reaching his face or throat. Foiled in another attempt, the tiger bit | him severely on the leg, and knee cap. He hopes, however, to contine his splendid recovery and to be as good as new within another few months. A son is a junior at A. & M. C. L. Murph is in the general contracting business at Wichita Falls. W. B. Cook, 1806, Houston, is expecting his son, Ensign W. B. Martin Properties, Cen- trals Engineering and Supply Co., and Electrified Water Company and as a Dallas National Bank Di- rector. K. H. Hamill, prominent Houston independent oilman, will head this year’s campaign of the Community Chest for the City of 'Col. Wm. J. Miles, Seguin. . In addition to his oil business, he is Director of the Reed Roller Bit Company and the City National Bank of Hous- ton. He was Harris County’s first Chairman for the sale of war bonds and has served on many committees of the community chest and Chamber of Commerce. He is President of the Kiwanis Club and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the St. Paul’s Methodist Church, and active in many other civic af- fairs. H. “Bill” Waring has re- turned to civilian life after a tour of duty in the navy and is back at work for the Johns-Manville Corp., 1000 Market St., St. Louis 1, Mo. He reported in a recent let- ter that Clyde Norman, ’37, would soon return to that corporation as sales representative in Oklahoma City. : 1946 will be a year to be re- membered by Ford Munnerlyn, College Station. He is serving as President of the Bryan and Col- lege Station Chamber of Commerce. In addition to that extra chore, he is completing construction of Munnerlyn Village between Bryan and College, where houses for 50 servicemen are being constructed. In his spare time, of course, he is still District Agent for the Amer- ican General Life Insurance Com- pany of Houston. 1927 Allen R. Menger 111 W. Travis, San Antonio 5 Maj. W. H. Leverett is returning to work with the Maintenance En- gineering Corporation, Houston, after extensive military service. His mailing address is Box 527, Houston. J. Lockett Shelton has announc- ed his return to the Investment Banking Business as a dealer in municipal and corporate securities with offices in the West Texas Utilities Building, Abilene. Shelton has been in the investment banking business for many years. During the war he devoted his entire time to the sale of war bonds. He is now operating his own Investment bank- ing business. He is the immediate past president of the Abilene A. & M. Club. Major L. O. Buchanan, Dept. of Agi, USAMGIK, APO 235, San Francisco, hopes to return to the U. S. in August from Korea. He has been eligible to return since February, but is in a scarce cate- gory and has not been able to leave. He recently wrote the Reg- istrar’s Office about the possibility of two Koreans attending A. & M. next fall. Major Clyde B. Kennington is Special Service Officer, Presidio of San Francisco, Calif. He has just returned to his post after at- tending the Army Information School at Carlisle Barraecs, Pa. . . Commander Herbert E. Kellner, from the Navy soon and will be associated with Mr, C. L. College Extension Service, College Station, has re- signed that position to devote full time to his business interests in Bryan and vicinity. He has filled the position of economist with the Extension Service since 1936 with time out for special work at Har- vard and almost four years in the Army Air Corps. Ferguson has been transferred from his position as Assistant County Agricultural Agent for Ellis County to the position of acting county agricul- tural agent for Kaufman County, with headquarters at Kaufman. Michel T. Halbouty, Shell Build- ing, Houston, Consulting Geologist and Petroleum Engineer, recently opened a new pool in Red River field to be opened by Halbouty since his release from active duty last year. The first pool was at Ashland in Natchitoches Parish. Correction: In a recent issue of The Aggie, the Editor carried Bob Elder as General Secretary of the Wheeling & Lake Erie EE Co. of | Brewster, Ohio. Bob is General Secretary of the Y. M. C. Co., Houston 1 J. Russell Couch has resumed his duties as poultry hubsandman for the Texas Agricultural Experi- ment Station after army service of nearly five years. He was called to duty in June, 1941 with the rank of 1st Lt. and released in March, 1946 with Lt. Col. grade. He was stationed in Manila during Sep- tember, 1945 and was with the Army of Occupation in Japan for the past several months. Joe L. One of the finest golf players ever to represent A. & M., Col. Schrie- ver said he had not time for that game in many years, but would take it up again now that he was back in the U. S. Foerster, Jr., of Rosenberg, has announced his candidacy for civilian ‘Sonora, congressman form the ninth dis- trict. A research horticulturist, Mr. Foerster is a native of Rosenberg and was educated in the public schools of that city. After leaving A. & M. he taught school for two years, leaving that field to work in the sulphur field at Orchard and the employ of the Consolidated Chemical Inc. He discovered a new method of locating oil and gas fields through bacteriological soil analysis and was engaged in that work at the time he went into service. Mr. Foerster is married and has four sons and a daughter. Major Frank Schleicher was a recent campus visitor following his return from two and a half years spent in India—most of it in Cal- cutta. He was on terminal leave and in June returned to his former position with the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey at Vene- zuela. He and Mrs. Schleicher have a two and a half year old son whom Frank saw for the first time upon his return from India. They have been living at 4426 Wheeler, Hous- ton 4. Major Lawrence A. DeWare is back at A. & M. after more than three years serv- ice with the 25th Division in the Pacific Theater. He was discharg- ed as a first lieutenant in the In- fantry.
