He Pulled a Surprise
R. Harry Stiteler, ’31
The biggest football upset of
45 in the Southwest was the
emergence of Harry Stiteler’s Waco
High School Tigers as co-champ-
ions of Texas high school football.
The Tigers won that honor when
they tied Highland Park in the
final game. It was Stiteler’s sec-
ond championship, his previous one
being as coach of Corpus Christi
High School. Stiteler’s team went
into the final game doped to lose
by practically all experts.
Aggies Win — Lose In
Opening Court Games
Marty Karow’s 1946 Aggie basketball
team got away to a fast start in the
current conference race by trouncing S.
M. U. in the DeWare Field House at
Kyle Field, but dropped their next tilt to
the T. C. U. Frogs. Although the season
is too young for standings, Arkansas, Rice
and Baylor loom as the top teams of the
league. The Razorbacks, featuring giant
center Kok, are top-heavy favorites for
the title. Karow’s team is due to win
more games that the Aggies have won
in the past several years but is hardly a
title-contender in this building-back per-
iod. The Cadet’s big star to date has been
