NOT A BAD IDEA— po. St. »Joharnm,” Austria 1 October 1945 Dear Mac: © Just thought I'd put myself out front by sending my contribution for the ’46 Fund now rather than wait until about next May 29, or whenever the deadline is. You’d be surprised at how many ‘“Rain- bow’ Aggies there are in this 42nd Divi- Guess that’s what makes it such a good outfit. One Lt. Edwin J. “Duffy” of which I'm the alleged Assistant Ad- jutant and Special Service Officer. Dur- ing combat he, Stanley, was the Ranger Platoon Leader and did himself proud as such, although he would be the last to mention it. As fellow architect ‘‘queers”, Stanley and I were roommates at one time. During those days of combat yours truly was the 2nd Rifle Platoon leader of Charlie Company—this regiment which happens to be (then and now) the best damn com- pany in the division. When the war end- ed and I returned from the hospital they didn’t have much use for an old shot-gun platoon leader, so they fitted me into the “rear echelon job”, It’s a lot of fun though (as Special Service Officer, I'm somewhat of a glorified liquor dealer)— and was just made First John last month. (That last statement is the real key to my writing this leter—so I can see my name in print sometime soon!!!) (Now ain’t that a hell’va note?) With all the talk back home about dis- charge and points with Congressmen catching hell from the homefolks and they in turn blowing their tops at the army,— this ole’ boy has just about reached a solution—and it’s as simple as this— grant something like 25 points to every damn Aggie in the Army and Navy to- day! Boy—that oughta’ get it!!! Now where did I put my Congressman’s ad- dress. 1/Lt. Dorgy L. H. Watler Haq, Co.illst Bn. 232nd Inf. APO 411 % PM, New York, N. Y. 1946 Wedding Bells: B. J.
