YARDLEY, of Ray- ~mondville, Texas, escaped prisoner of war and commanding officer of a parachute battalion that participated in the invasion of North Africa, Sicily and Italy, has com- pleted a lecture tour of Central and South ‘American countries, arranged by the Mili- tary Mission Division of the Caribbean Defense Command and is at home on leave. Col. Yardley spent 17 months of im- prisonment in the German prison camp Oflag 64, Szubin, Poland. Among his deco- rations are: American Defense Ribbon, European Theater of Operations Ribbon with three battle stars, American Theater of Operations Ribbon, Combat Infantry- man Badge, Bronze Star, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Purple Heart. ~ WALLIS H. AIRHART has assumed his new duties as adminstrative officer of the AAA in McKinney. For the past 8 years he has served in the same capacity for Palo Pinto County. : _ P. MUNZ is teaching industrial arts at Alvin High School. He spent two years doing aviaition engine overhaul work for . the navy. Mr. and Mrs. Munz have an 8 months old daughter, Marianne. MAJOR J. D. ROBBINS of Coolidge completed the war as one of America’s high-scoring air aces. He has a total of 22 Jap planes to his credit. WEE LT. N. S. MEYER, 1318 Meander St. charged with the Abilene, has returned from France and hopes soon to be released from military duty. He expeets to return to his work as a civilian engineer—specializing in public utilities. MAJOR LEHMAN campus visitor on August 24. He has just gotten back to the states after spending 3 years in England with a heavy bombard- ment group of the 8th Air Force. He was married to Miss Margaret Parker, of North Hampton, England, on Sept. 9, 1944. Mrs. Rahn was not able to come to the states with him but expects to arrive within 60- 90 days. Major Rahn entered the service as a private and received his commission at the Officers Communications School, Scott Field, Ill., August 8, 1942. He went over- seas within 30 days after receiving his commission. He was accompanied on his campus visit by SKV 3/c CHARLES A. CARL LUETCKE, JR., of San Antonio, was one of the fortunate Aggies who had a part in the atomic bomb devel- opment. He took part in the bomb testing which was done last winter in the United States. . CAPT. BOB L. ADAMS is a member of the staff and faculty of the Field Artillery School, Fort Sill, following his return from the European theater. His wife is living at Lawton, Oklahoma, near ‘Ft. Sill. CAPT. SAMMY DWYER, twice a pris- oner of the Nazis, has been in Bryan vis- iting his little son, Bitty, who makes his home with his grandparents, Judge and Mrs. W. S. Barron. Capt. Dwyer was a prisoner of the Germans from January to March and a few days after his liberation was again taken prisoner but was out again on April 29. He is with the 12th Arm’d Div. Capt. HAINES, JR., College Sta- tion. The Medal was presented to his father, PAUL G. HAINES, SR., ‘18, in a ceremony at Bryan Army Air Field. The award was for heroic achievement from November 4, 1944 ,to February 24, 1945, in Holland and Germany. ‘ CAPT. FRANCIS C. KINCANNON, Rt. 1, Box 216, Waco, Texas, is home after spending 10 months in a German prison camp. He will be accompanied by his wife to Miami, Fla., for reassignment. He was flying a B-17 when shot down over fetiuany and was interned in Stalag uft 1. i . ENSIGN E. WAYNE PETTIT visited the campus August 24 enroute to New Orleans, La., for reassignment. Out of a total of 44 months in the navy he has been at sea for 26 months. His first sea duty was on the U. S. S. Markab, a destroyer tender. He was ‘commissioned while in service and after being sent back to the states for training in com- munications was assigned to the U. S. S. Caravan, from which he was released and transferred to New Orleans for re-as- signment. Since entering the service, ePttit has seen 43 of the 48 states in the Union. LT. COL. ROBERT HERRING is anxi- ous to get to Tokyo and look up his class- mate—Lt. Col. Teranaki, staff officer of Hirohito’s air corps. Herring is staff of- ficer with a 5th Air Force Bomb wing. After Col. Herring graduated from A. & M., he took a graduate course at South- western, Georgetown, and a classmate In one of his classes was one Teranaki—that should provt to be an interesting meeting. That was the popular contention recently when forty-seven met in the south- ern Philippines. Aggies showed up from everywhere—even from under each other’s noses. Fourteen classes were represented. Marlin ' D. Lewis, class of ’25, held sen- iority while Ed Crown Miller, class of 47, was the ‘fish’ of the group. A short business meeting was held and The Southern Philippines A. M. Club was formed. Officers were elected and plans put under way for a next meeting in the near future. Lewis was elected president by acclamation. Other officers elected were Frank Bednarek, ‘35, lst vice president; B, P. Burtner, ’40, 2nd vice president; Lloyd E. Clyburn, ’42, secre- tary; Woodrow W. Potter, ’39, treasurer; and James F. The Colonel is officially credited with knocking out 11 German planes, 10 of which were on the ground.
