Dear Classmates:
We are still here in the Philippines, and
of course sweating the points. Who isn’t?
One of the men with no more than I put
it this way, “All I need to make me
happy is a coupla Kids to call me pappy.”
Letter writing time sure “snuck” up
on me this time—hope this makes the press.
I certainly enjoyed a letter from Mack
Wilson, who is over across the China
Sea (guess that’s between here and
China); so I am going to share it with
you.
Recently I spent a few days with Bob
Langford and ‘Rusty’ Coward down in
New Guinea. The' Air Corps was mighty
kind to this old foot soldier. I saw Ran-
som Kenny and H. S. Mogsford, both ’42,
down there, too, and they look fine.
Ed. Whitney wrote me from the Mari-
annas. “Eli” has been enjoying Browns-
ville , Tex., up until now, but they
got him off his chair. George Motz is here
on the island with me, but too far away
to see right now. Maybe we'll get to-
gether soon.
I am enclosing a nice, newsy letter
from Lloyd Mayfield. He's had some
darn hard luck. I'll let you read about it
in his letter. Hope you made Brooke Gen-
eral Hosp., Lloyd. That ‘“tow-headed’’ son
should be pretty proud of his “pop”.
I'd better not close without including
these addresses: Capt. George Motz, APO
70, San Francisco; Capt. Edward P.
Whitney, APO 246, San Frahcisco; Lt.
W. L. Mayfield, APO 772, New York
(Lloyd is probably at home now); Capt.
Robert I. Langford, APO 323, San Fran-
risco; Capt. A. Coward, APO 920,
San Francisco; Lt. H. S. Mogsford, APO
920, San Francisco; Capt. Ransom Ken-
ny, APO 565, San Francisco; Pfc. Mack
R. Wilson, APO 210, New York; Pvt.
Edward Aaron, APO 2, New York; and
Capt. W. F. Silvey, APO 922, San Fran-
cisco.
Time to draw this to a close, so take
care of yourselves wherever you are
men, and don’t forget our get-to-gether
back at College some fine day.
Sincerely
Tom Richey

Somewhere in China
Dear Tom: X
Thanks for the last class letter. I left
the States in October, ’44, for India,
thence to China. Ran into T/S Preston
Ingram, of the old Aggie F. A., and Pfec.
B. W. Clyatt. Have met Capt. Ruel Guinn,
who was just passing through. It will be
seven years tomorrow since our last
April Fools Day which I know none of us
will ever forget. :
I am still single and nothing inview
along that line. I think the class letter is
a grand idea, and the only better thing
I can think about is the day when we
can all get together again for a class
reunion.

April 2, 1945
Dear Tom:
Your interesting class letter has just
reached me and really helped cheer me up.
Then, too, I've been wanting addresses
so I can do all that writing I’ve often
planned to do and never got around to. You
are plenty busy now days to say the least.
My outfit is finally the last one into
Germany across the Rhine, but I’m here
on an enforced rest!
Just 6 weeks ago tomorrow I got hit
by a Jerry AP slug that went up through
my seat, flak pad, wallet, and lodged in
my upper femur. Luckily I wasn’t too
far from my station so managed to set
my little ‘‘Superfort”, as you call ’em,
down intact. Now I've spent about half
the required . time in traction and after
the remainder I go into a cast for travel-
ling back to Texas—Ft. Sam if I'm
lucky.
I read in the Aggie that Lee Rice was
there in Brooke Hosp., which is only 3
miles from my folks’ home. Major Bob
Myers was my Asst. Army Air Officer,
but I didn’t last long enough to see
Focke, Giles, or any of the rest. I did get
to visit Bob a few times and had quite a
party one Sat. nite.
Now you know I wasn’t so bulletproof
any more than my armored seat pad. I
was sorry to read about Abe Kahn's
death—I can remember taking Fish Chem-
istry with him and Tom Powers. I often
wonder what became of Bob Alexander
since I haven’t noticed his name in the
Aggie. I hear that Graham Purcell is
over here as Capt. in a tank or reconnais-
sance outfit, and has some decoration
or star.
My “old lady’, H. J. Richards, is with
the 7th Armd. Div.,, so is deep into
Germany now. My ex-roomie, Hervey Hut-
chins, is a Capt—engineering officer for
a squadron of B-29’s out your way. He's
a recent proud father—H. S. H. IV! He
wrote about flying all the way to Texas
for the arrival of his son. He mentioned
seeing Capt. Wally Crain with the ATC
out there in the Far Pacific.
I saw Earle Shields at POE. He's a
proud papa and Bn. S-3 up for majority.
Ralph Parker wrote early in Dec., that he
was B. C. of an Observation Btry. but
haven’t heard from him since. I hope
that wasn’t his outfit that was captured
and slaughtered in mid-December.
Last April I was at Ft. Sill for the
Muster and naturally knew most of the
gang. Gus Worthington turned up there
at Sill after his experiences—getting sent
to Australia instead of Manila in Deec.,
’41, and serving with the Port Bn. in New
Guinea. I wrote Bill Becker out there and
hope it reaches him.
Will hold down Texas if I get there.
Best of luck.
Lt. W. Lloyd Mayfield
