Silvey-Villamil Dr. and Mrs. Oscar William Silvey an- nounce the marriaeg of their daughter, Alice to Mr. Jorge Arturo Villami, ’42, ~~ on June 28 at Guayama, Puerto Rico, ~ where the young couple will reside. Mrs. ~ Villami is a College Station girl, having lived on the campus for a number of years, where her father was head of the De- partment of Physics. Malone-Green Miss Mary Lou Malone and Lt. (jg) Ralph Tillman Green, ’43, were married on June 20, at the First Baptist Church, San Diego, Calif. Mrs. Green was formerly employed in the Registrar's office at the ~ College. Lt. Kegley, ’45, were married in San Antonio, on July 24, according to a report we had in the Association Office. Ac- cording to Lt. Thomas C. Howard, ’45, it was an ‘“all-Aggie” wedding—from the groom on down through the five grooms- men. Lt. Kegley has been transferred to Victorville Air Field, Calif. Boyd-Bennett - Mr. and Mrs. Marvin J. Alexander, ’79, passed away at his home in Bonham, Texas, on July 16, 1945, He was a member of the first class to enroll at A. & M. and remained faithful to the school his entire life time. Burial was at Bonham. He is survived by two sons. { Col. Melvorne J. McCombs ’05 Col. Melvorne J. McCombs, 05, age 58, President of the Buckeye Tool Company, Dayton, Ohio, died on July 28 at Cin- cinnati. He had been in ill health for several years. Burial was in Dallas. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as a Major in the Engineers. After the war he was associated with the Employers Insurance Company in Dallas for many Buckeye Tool Company. A rabid athletic fan, he achieved na- tional fame as coach of the Golden Cy- clones women’s basketball and track teams of Dallas. - His most famous woman athlete was Mildred ‘Babe’ Didrikson. The Golden Cyclones were national basket ball champ- ions. Col. McCombs was a leading figure in the Dallas A. & M, Club while living in that city and during his life time was active in the affairs of the Association of Former Students and A. & M. College. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Peggie McCombs, and two sisters. Frank O. Montague, ’15 Frank O. Montaguee, ’15, age 52, veteran County Agricultural Agent, A. & tension Service, died on July 28 at Bay City. He had been County Agent there for the past 15 years. He was the immed- iate past president of the Texas County Agents Association. Burial was at Bay City. He is survived by his widow, a daughter, three sons, his mother, five sisters and two brothers. ; Capt. Cary M. Abney, Jr., ’34 Capt. Cary M, Abney, Jr., ’34, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Abney, 02, Marshal, Texas, was lost in the sinking of a Japanese transport on December 15, 1944. The transport was carrying prisoners of war from the Philippines to Japan. Capt. Abney received his degree from . & M., in Agricultural Administration in 1934. He was called to active duty in March, 1941, and was sent to the Philip- pines in August, 1941. Stationed at Clark Field near Manila when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor, Capt. Abney later saw service on Bataan and Coregidor. In De- cember, 1942, he was listed as a prisoner of war after being previously reported missing in action on Corregidor. Capt. Abney was interned in prison camps in the Philippines from the time of his cap- ture until December, 1944. Besides his parents, Capt. Abney is survived by his widow, Mrs. Cary M. Abney, Jr., also of Marshal, Texas. Major Charles B. Adams, ’40 Major Charles B. Adams, ’40, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dom Adams, Box 118, Al- pine, Texas, died in a plane crash on Luzon on June 5. Pilot of a P-51, Major Adams was killed when his plane hit a mountain after he had made a dive-bomb- ing attack on a target on the mountain. Major Adams received his degree from A. & M. in Agriculture. At the time of his death he had been in the service for 4 years and 3 months, and overseas since October, 1944. Besides his parents, survived by one sister. Major Adams is Capt. Jack E. Golden, ’42 Capt. Jack E. Golden, ’42, was killed in action in Germany on April 15. He was on reconnaissance duty for forward gun positions and was killed by enemy small arms fire, y Capt. Golden received his degree from A. & M. in Agricultural Administration on May 16, 1942, and reported for active duty the next day at Ft. Sill, Okla. Volunteer- ing for the Tank Destroyers, he was sent to Camp Hood for training, which he completed in Dec., 1942. In Feb., 1943, he left for overseas duty, landing in North Africa. Capt. Golden’s division was the first invasion force to land on Sicily and was also the first on the Normandy beach. He participated in action in France, Bel- gium and Germany, and was awarded the Silver Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster. Capt. Golden is survived by his pa- rents, Mr. and Mrs. Emitt Golden, Box 824, Seymour, Texas; and two brothers, Lt. Billy W. Golden, ’46, in the Air Corps, and Ray Mack Golden, a student at A. & M. Lt. Joseph E. Fisher, 43 Lt. Joseph E. Fisher, ’43, was killed on March 23, 1945, while leading an element on a mission the day that Gen. Patton’s Army across the the Rhine. He held the Air Medal with the first two bronze Oak Leaf clusters and was awarded posthumously the Purple Heart. He, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Fisher, Sr, and a sister, Mrs. C. F. Taylor, Jr., 1704. N. Liberty St., Victoria, Texas. Lt. Richard L. Hoefle, ’43 Lt, Richard L. Hoefle, ’43, son of Mr. and Mrs. K. F. Hoefle, ’12, 6037 Revere, Dallas, Texas, was killed in an airplane accident at Climax, Ga., on July 3. He was making a routine altitude flight as pilot of a P-51 when his plane crashed. Unofficial reports received by his parents state that Lt. Hoefle’s oxygen supply ap- paratus failed at an altitude of above 25,- 000 feet, causing his death before the plane crashed. y Lt. Hoefle attended A. & M. during the years 1939-43, taking Petroleum Engineer- ing. Besides his parents, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Katherine Hartman Hoefle, 4331 Somerville,” Dallas, Texas; a sister; and a brother. Cpl. William Waldo Partlow, 43 Cpl. William Waldo Partlow, ’43, was killed recently in an air craft accident in Asia. A radio operator with the Air- transport command, Cpl. Partlow had been stationed at Abadan, Iran, for nearly a year and had flown the “rocket run” to Karachi, India, Besides his parents, Mr. H. Wehner, ’35, are the proud parents. Mrs. Wehner is living at 3031, 30th St. SE., Apt. 1, Washington, 20, D. C., while the Major is overseas. ’ A new son, the second in the Voss fam- ily, was born on July 7, at Scott and White Hospital, Temple, to Capt. and Mrs, Tommie E. Voss, ’35. The young man’s name is Robert Edwin. Captain and Mrs. H. G. “Jiggs” Howard, Jr., ’40, have a daughter born on March 15, whom Capt. Howard has not seen. Mother and baby are living at Pleasanton, Texas, where the proud papa hopes to join them soon. A son, named James, was born to Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Nachlinger, ’40, on June 2, 1301 Woodswether Rd., Kansas City, Mo. Capt. William T. Dinwiddie, ’41, sends in the news that a son was born to them on May 31, in Dayton. The Dinwiddie fam- ily is living at 521 Wiltshire Blvd, Day- ton, 9, Ohio. A son, Leslie Charles, was born to Lt. and Mrs Leslie G. Carruth, ’42, on July 6. Lt. Caruth is stationed at New Or- leans. Mrs. Caruth and the baby will make their home in Denton, Texas. Sgt. and Mrs. Glenn Taylor, Jr. ’42, announce the birth of a daughter, Janice Irene, born June 3. Sgt. Taylor is sta- tioned at Harlingen Army Air Field and Mrs. Taylor and baby are living at 600 W. Lindsey, Brackenridge. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. McClendon, ’43, announce the birth of Barbara Gail, on May 23. The McClendon family is: living at 1126 Idaho, Santa Monica, Calif. Lt, and Mrs. Willard P. Worley, ’43, are proud of their first child, a daughter named Eleanor, born recently. Mrs. Wor- ley and baby are living in Delaware and the proud papa is “baching” it at 3621 South 3rd St., Arlington, Va. A most unique announcement in the form of a ration book carried the news of the arrival of Polly Ann Barnes, born on July 28 to Dr. and Mrs. Chas. M. Barnes, ’44, 707 W. 2nd, Cisco, Texas. WATTINGER lives at 3819 Hawthorne, Ave., Richmond, 22, Va. LT. COL. GEO. P. MUNSON, JR., if East Columbia, has been awarded the Bronze Star. He is Commanding Officer of the Battalion which landed a short time after D-Day, building two airstrips in Normandy for fighter-bombers of the 9th Air Force. Before entering service, Coly, Munson was a civil engineer for the Hig¢hway Department. His wift, Mrs. Eula Bee Munson, resides at East Columbia. LT. ALBERT LOWE is serving in the Bn. with MAJOR WM. D. NIXX, ’36 in the Port of Marseilles. W. R. “BILL” CARMICHAEL, Assistant to the Director of athletics at the College has resigned this post effective August 1 and will return to his position as Prin- cipal of the Lamar Junior High School. Mr. Carmichael stated that he was well pleased with his work in the atheletic de- partment at the College but felt that he could better serve his community in the public school system. HARRY C. GEAR is Chief Engineer of the Midwest Engineering & Tool Company, Neodesha, Kan. He is operating three plants now engaged in war work, but making plans for postwar expansion. He has openings in his organization for me- chanical and electrical engineers and me- chanical draftsmen. Carolyn Wattinger, age 7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. RALPH WATTINGER, 3819 Hawthorne Ave., Richmond, 22, Va., died on August 1 after a very short illness. She is survived by her parents and two sisters. While COL. WM. D. WILLIS is serving in the Southwest Pacific. Mrs. Willis is making her home at 706 . Waverly Drive, Dallas, 11, Texas. . . .GEORGE P. Partlow, he is survived by a sister, a brother and a grandmother, all of Liberty. Willard Leo Kunze, ’44 Mrs. George Powers, mother of Sea- man Willard Leo Kunze, ’44, has been notified that her son has been killed in action. He enlisted in the navy in 1942 and after boot training he completed with high honors a course in the West Coast Sound School, became an instructor and later was assigned to a ship and became a Captain’s Aide. For 20 months Seaman Kunze saw service in the Pacific, seeing action Leyte, Admiralty Isles, Caroline Isles, and in the Luzon campaign. Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, now overseas. Lt. Frederick D. Storey, Jr., 44 Lt. Frederick D. Storey, Jr., ’44, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. D, Storey of San Antonio, was killed in action on February 23 while flying with the 9th Bomber Com- mand on a mission over Germany. He has been posthumously awarded the Air Medal with one silver and two bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Lt. Storey attended A. & M. during the years 1940-41, taking Chemical En- gineering. Besides his parents, he is sur- vived by his widow, Mrs. Lora V. Storey, and 8-month-old son, 906 Byrne, Houston. F/O Charles L. Dickens, ’45 Flight Officer Charles L. Dikecens, ’45, son of Mr. C. H. Dickens, 3007 Cole Ave., Waco, was killed in an airplane accident over China on July 5, He was based in Burma as a C-46 pilot with the 10th Air Force and at the time of his death was carrying troops tothe front lines. Flight Officer Dickens entered A. & M. in 1941, taking Mechanical Engineering, and left sehool in November, 1942, to enter the Air Corps. Besides his father, he is survived by his widow and a nine- month-old son. Sgt. Cecil M. Holekamp, ’45 Sgt. Cecil M. Holekamp, ’45, died of wounds received in action on Okinawa on April 10. He was leading his machine gun section in an attack on Kakazu ridge and was wounded by enemy sniper fire during the advance. He died shortly after. Sgt. Holekamp left A. & M. in June, 1943, to enter active military service. He completed basic training in the Infantry at Camp Roberts, Calif., and was trans- ferred to Camp White, Oregon, and as- signed to the 96th ‘Deadeye’” Division. In May, 1944, he went to Camp Callen, Calif., for amphibious training, and then rejoined his regiment in San Luis Obispo, Calif., leaving for duty in the Pacific in July, 1944. Sgt. Holekamp participated in the Leyte campaign, and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Purple Heart Ribbon. Sgt. Holekamp was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Holekamp, Junction, Texas. Ensign Tommy H. Winn, ’45 Ensign Tommy H. Winn, ’45, previously reported missing in action, was killed in action on February 7 in a plane crash in the Pacific. Ensign Winn was making a routine flight when he crashed, and the cause of the crash is unknown. Ensign Winn entered A. & M. in 1941, taking Liberal Arts. He left school in February, 1943, to enter the Navil Air Corps and received his wings and commis- sion at the Corpus Christ Naval Air Station in May, 1944. He had been over- seas since last November, Ensign Winn is survived by his mother, Mrs. Grace Winn, Houston, Texas; his father, Tom Winn, Sr., Kansas City, Mo.; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C L.
