They continued as roommates during basic training, OCS, aboard ship, and at a replacement depot in Italy. They now share the same tent in the command post of the 109th Engineer Combat Bn., a unit of the 34th “Red Bull” Infantry Division of the Fifth Army front in Italy. SIMPSON, APO 403, NYC, writes HANK AVERY from some- where in Belgium that he is getting along fine. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Simpson of Christoval, Texas. LT. LESLIE STRADER, of Houston, was wounded in action in Germany on March 19, while serving with the 4th Armd. Division of the Third Army. Over- seas since December, Lt. Strader was awarded a letter of commendation for his service in the battle of Bastogne. Recent campus visitors were HOLT DANIELS and ENS. W. T. ZAPP, USN, both of Houston. Daniels is with J. A. Phillips Co., Accountants, but plans to go back to school to complete work for his degree. He has been unable to get into military service because of physical rea- sons. Zapp was enroute to New York City, where he will continue navigation training. LT. WILLIAM J. SPARKMAN, Hous- ton, has been awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement against the ene- my in Holland. He has been overseas since Oct., 1944. RAYMOND EISENHAU- ER, both in Europe. Eisenhauer was prom- oted to the rank of 1st Lt. in Holland. LT. SID SMITH, APO 102, NYC, writes that about 100 Aggies from different div- isions met somewhere in Germany in March and planned an April 21st Muster. Among those present were LT. The final score was 84-80. Tom Syfan, of A. & M., was the individual star. Aggie Captain, Allen Self, clinched the championship with a strong final lap and victory in the 440 free- style relay. BRASWELL, son of | Ny Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Braswell of Yoakum, Texas, whose death was reported in the Silver Taps column of the preceding issue. He died on March 3 of wounds received on Iwo Jima. LT. HERMAN L. PHILIPSON, JR., of 6711 Country Club Drive, Dallas, Texas, wounded during the battle of St. Vith, is now in a hospital in England with one of the strangest experiences and stories of the war. He had been reported missing for three months, had been taken prisoner by the Germans following his casualty at St. Vith, was in a German hosipal and was operated on by German surgeons, but somehow managed to escape. He now ad- vises his parents that he hopes soon to be back in the States. He also reports that Jack Behling of Albany, Texas, was a Ger- man prisoner. Lt. Philipson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Philipson of Dallas. CAPT. JOHN A. WHITACRE, JR., has reported to Miami, Fla., for reassignment after spending a leave at his home in Stephenville. Texas. Entering the Air Corps in March, 1943, Capt. Whitacre served as a Liberator pilot and squadron leader in Italy and completed 35 combat missions. He wears the DFC, Air Medal with three Clusters, and Distinguished Presidential Unit Badge. LT. CLARK O. IRVING is at Torney Gen. Hosp., Ward A-1, Palm Springs, Calif., as a result of wounds received in Manila on Feb. 3. Mr. and Mrs. Criss Hale, Joinerville, Texas, have been notified that thier son, SGT. JOEL N. HALE, tail gunner on a bomber, has been wounded in action and is at a hospital in England. Major and Mrs. W. F. Lovett of Seguin, Texas, send a memorial Development Fund gift for their son, LT .WILLIAM F:. LOVETT, JR., who was killed in action in China on September 15. LT. JOHN T.
