FOSTER, JR. has returned to the States after 28 months in the Southwest Pacific and is at present attending Field Artillery School at Ft. Sill, Okla. He reports his marriage last September. Foster’s home address is 836 Robinson Place, Shreveport, La. April 24, 1946 To the Belles of ’38: 1 feel a little like a college student again now, as I am back at Fort Benning taking a two-month refresher course. It’s mighty fine, except the cramming we used to do before our exams doesn’t work out as well now. The course is fine, and so is the vocation. Lt. James D. Carter is in my class and has just recently returned from the Pacific after having been there for two years or so. Jimmie will report back to Camp Hood, Texas, May 11, when we finish up here. Last Saturday night we enjoyed a swell Muster with some 75 Aggies and their wives and dates attending. Major Pat Eas- ley, ’39, stationed here at the school, was in charge and presented us a fine pro- gram. Surprisingly to me, the majority of the A. M. men present were Officer Candidates from the classes of ’45, ’46, and ’47. However, there were several old men around, but no others from our class. We had a regular yell practice along with the prescribed program and also a cold plate lunch along with that famous beverage—beer. I understand that Major Arnold Spitzer is stationed here and I know that he was for a long time, but have not run into him. Did run into Capt. Gustavo J. Pena, whe is being converted from Coast Ar- tillery into the Infantry. He is still here, but is in a different class, and I don’t see him very much. There are several class- es of officers down here converting offi- cers from various branches into the In- fantry. Lt. C. Calvin Parker dropped me a line a month or so ago and at that time was in England. Calvin was in Europe once and was returned to Ashburn General Hos- pital, McKinney, Texas; then again went back over. He is to be returned to limited duty soon and is with the S. O. S., 3rd Army. Calvin was from Houston and in the Band ’34-38. Had a real interesting letter from H. B. McElroy who, if you will remember, used to publicize the college and its sports. Mac finally got in the Seabees after the Army refused him and went from Pearl Harbor to Tarawa where he had a pretty tough time. He was medically dis- charged in December, and his present ad- dress is Box 5736, College Station, Texas. He says he is a P.F.C. now, and that doesn’t mean the Army term either. Ed Coulson wrote next and is engaged in the practice of law with Vinson, Elkins, Weems & Francis in Houston, Texas. Ed has a medical discharge from the Officer Reserve Corps. However, he writes that Bennett, his brother, was commissioned in the Navy in 1942 and has spent a year and a half in the Southwest Pacific. Ben- nett is a member of ’38 class, although he got his B. S. in ’839 and Masters in ’40. Ed’s address is 2244 North Boulevard, Houston 6, Texas. Lt. Bennett Coulson can be reached ¢% Fleet Post Office, San Fran- cisco, Calif. Ole Herb Peavy is a Lieut. Col. now and his address is APO 885, NYC. Pete wrote me a long letter and it was the first I'd heard of him since 1941. He’s gone a long way, and even so far as to have a wife and 6 months old baby girl. He writes that Major Elmer Poutra is back in the States after three years in the South Pacific. In answer to your question, Pete, I got a letter from George today, and he is just fine. His address is Major George R. Burch, APO 523, NYC. Capt. Frank Altick, MC, APO 133, NYC, is a flight surgeon with a troop carrier group somewhere in France. Frank, I am asking Mr. Mac to supply you with W. E. “BILL’ Stiles’ present address, also John Ashford’s. Thanks for the fine letter. The last letter I have received from one of our bunch this time was from Lt. Roger A. Pendery, APO 640, NYC. Roger is doing some interesting work in crimi- nal investigation, but says he doesn’t run into many Aggies along that line, which I guess is pretty good. Roger has been in the British Isles for two and a half years and now commands his de- tachment. That’s all for now, but hope to get some more news for you for next time. We've got just one more month before the fiscal year, so don’t forget the Dev- elopment Fund and the Ex-Students’ Asso- ciation. Best regards to all of you, and just give ‘em hell. John Capt. John H. Atkinson CAPT. WILLIAM H. ATKINSON of Omaha, Texas, was recently presented to Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in action as a member of the 362nd Inf. Regt., 91st Inf. Division, in Italy. He was severely injured by an artillery shell burst during the action which lead to his award. Prior to entering into the armed forces, he was with the Soil Conservation Service at Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has been overseas for ten months, seeing extensive duty in the Italian campaign. The picture above was taken in the 37th Gen- eral Hospital in Italy. His wife makes her home at Omaha. Word was recently received that CAPT. 0. D. BUTLER was in a hospital in Eng- land. Capt. Butler had been wanting to capture a German gun to send home to his wife ,and when the gun became available, he accidentally discharged it and the bullet went through his right food, severing the leader to his third toe. Capt. Butler reports that the luxury of the hospital is wonder- ful, but he is terribly embarrassed to let such an incident take him away from his troops. CAPT. ARCH J.
