CRUMP, of Hughes Springs, Texas, served as liaison officer for the Fourth Tank Bn., veteran Fourth Marine Division, during the battle for Iwo Jima. He spent approximately 35 hours in the air, and his reports eliminated several obstacles that the tanks would have encountered and helped clear the paths of certain Jap guns by calling for naval and artillery fire. Lt. Crump received the Bronze Star Medal for his work on the ground during the Tinian operation. LT. RUFUS R.
