Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Mills of Crystal
Springs, Miss., have announced the mar-
riage of their daughter, Miss Corinne
Mills, to Donald E. Formby, ’40, on March
17 at Dallas, Texas. The couple will make
their home in Dallas.
Magliolo-Guill
Miss Ursula Magliolo became the bride
of Capt. A. W. Guill, ’41, on February
10 at the Fort Crockett Chapel, Galveston,
Texas. They are living at 2016 31st. Gal-
veston.
Satterlee-Rountree
Miss Margaret Elizabeth Satterlee, daugh-
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Satterlee,
Chattanooga, Tenn., and Lt. William M.
Rountree, ’41, were married on March 3.
Lt. Rountree recently returned from two
years of duty in the Pacific and will re-
port to camp Lejeune, N. C., after a
30-day leave.
Willis-Cowley
Miss Dreena Willis, granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Little of Denver, Colo.,
became the bride of Lt. Harold E. Cowley,
’42, of Frier, Texas, on November 30,
1944, in Denver, Colo. Mrs. Cowley is
making her home at 1525 Fulton St., Den-
ver while Lt. Cowley is on overseas duty.
Ostrander-Evans
Miss Carolyn Ann Ostrander and Lt.
Loyal Glenn Evans, ’42, were married in
Dallas on March 10.
McCallum-Gaines
A belated announcement has been re-
ceived of the marriage last November 4 of
Miss Audrie McCallum, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles H. Sendey of New York
City, to Lt. Carroll M. Gaines, ’42, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Carroll M. Gaines, Sr., 212,
San Antonio. They are making their home
at 3 Downing Place, Presque Isle, Maine,
where Lt. Gaines is stationed.
Ash-Packard
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Ash of Birmingham,
Ala., have announced the marriage of their
daughter, Josephine, to ‘Capt. Lawrence
H. Packard, Jr., ’42, of San Antonio,
which took place on March 10 at the Post
Chapel of Edgewood Arsenal, Md., where
Capt. Packard is stationed. The couple
are at home in Middle River, Md.

Announcement has been made of the
marriage of Lt. Margery Elkington, Army
Nurse Corps, to Capt. Jack K. Shurley,
’42, in Florence, Italy, on March 3.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Burleson, ’35,
are mighty proud of their Aggie, who was
are mighty proud of their future Aggie,
who was born on April 3. The Burlesons,
who also have a 4-year-old daughter, live
in Comanche, Texas, where he is Co. Agri-
cultural Agent.
Merle Ann Hammack was born on
Christmas Day to Mr. and Mrs. Merle S.
Hammack, ’37, Box 427, Lancaster. The
Hammacks also have a son, Steve, now 4
vears old.
Mr. and Mrs. R. L. McClung, ’37, are
the proud parents of a second future Ag-
gie, Billy Mack, who was born last Nov-
ember 5. Mr. McClung is with the Farm
Security Administration at Quitman, Texas.
A second son, Michael Harrison Moore,
was born on December 10 to Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Hiram Moors, ’38, Box H, Hobbs,
New Mexico.

Col. J. E. Josey, 85
Col. J. E. Josey, age 79, died at Hous-
ton on April 5. He attended A. & M.
from 1881-83. At the time of his death he
was chairman of the board of The Houston
Post and a member of the Board of Re-
gents of the state teachers colleges. He is
survived by his widow, two sons, two
brothers, and two sisters. Burial was at
Huntsville, his original family home.
For half a century Col. Josey had been
closely identified with business and civic
interests at East Texas. He moved his
business headquarters from Beaumont to
Houston a number of years ago
George McCormick, 91
George McCormick, age 72, one of the
outstanding engineering graduates of the
College, died in a Houston hosiptal on
April 5. He retired in 1942 as General
Superintendent of Motive Power of the
Western Division of the Southern Pacific
lines. Burial was at Weimar. Surviving
are his widow, a sister, and two brothers.
Mr. McCormick received his degree from
A. & M. in Mechanical Engineering and
statred his career with the Southern Paci-
fic lines as a machinist. He was one of
the nation’s outstanding authorities in
railway motive power. He was awarded an
honorary doctorate in engineering by the
A. & M. College a few years ago. He was
born in Columbus, Texas, and since his
retirement made his home there and at
Houston and Weimar. During his long
career with the Southern Pacific, his years
were spent with headquarters at Houston
and later at San Francisco, Calif. He was
a lifelong member of the Association of
Former Students.
Charles D. Evans, ’99
Charles Dorman Evans, ’99, died June
30, 1944. His life and career were mem-
orialized by the American Society of Civ-
il Engineers. Since his graduation from
A. & M. in Civil Engineering, he engaged
in engineering work, mostly in Louisiana.
His home was at Shreveport. He served
that city as city commissioner and as
superintendent of streets and parks. At
the time of his death, he was examining
engineer for the Federal Works Agency.
He is survived by his widow, one daughter,
and four grandchildren.
An active, loyal A. & M. man _through-
out his lifetime, Mr. Evans was one o
the early charter members of the Shreve-
port A. & M. Club.
Joseph L. Rosenfield, ’16
Joseph L. Rosenfield, ’16, died at his
home, 1520 25th St., Galveston, on March
24, A well known merchant in Galveston,
Mr. Rosenfield was associated with the
hardware company of Ben Blum & Co.,
until his retirement last year. He received
his degree in Civil Engineering at A. &
M. in 1916, and served as an officer with
the army engineers in World War I.
Lt. Bridwell J. McKnight, ’39
Lt. Bridwell J. McKnight, ’39, was killed
off the shore of Leyte on January 15 in
a midair collision, according to information
from his mother, Mrs. R. McKnight,
Reklaw, Texas. A member of Transport
Squadron VR 13, Lt. McKnight was
evacuating wounded at the time of his
death. He attended A. & M. during the
years 1937-40, majoring in Fish and
Game.
Lt. Lynn H. Mead, Jr., ’41
Lt. Lynn H. Mead, Jr., ’41, was killed in
action in Germany on February 24, ac-
cording to word from his mother, Mrs.
Lynn H. Mead, Sr., 16 Water View Ave.,
Riverside 15, Rhode Island.
Lt. Mead received his degree in Agricul-
ture at A. & M. After completing OCS
at Ft. Benning, Ga., in September, 1944,
he left for overseas duty. At the time of
his death, he was serving with the 30th
Division.
Lt. H. 0, -Boergfield,- -Jr., 42
Lt. JH. OQ. Bergield, Jr., ’42, son-of Mr.
and Mrs. H. O. Borgfeld, Sr., Converse
Texas, was killed in action over Ger-
many on January 29 while flying his
fifth mission as bombardier-navigator on a
B-24.
After graduating from A. & M., Lt.
Borgfeld was employed as Field Biologist
for the Texas Cooperative Wildlife Re-
search Unit on wildlife problems in the
vicinity of Kerrville, Texas. He entered
the Air Corps in 1943, completing his
training at San Marcos Army Air Field
in July, 1944, and was sent to England
in December, 1944.
Besides his parents, Lt. Borgfeld is sur-
vived by his wife and son, who reside at
Cibolo, Texas; and a ' brother, Roy H.
Borgfeld, now a student at A. & M.

F/O John Paul Olsen, ’42
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Olsen, 6658 Meadow-
lawn, Houston, have been advised that
their son, F/O John P. Olsen, ’42, prev-
iously reported missing in action, was
March 17. Capt. Wilson is assigned to the
14th E. T. Group Hdgq., N. Fort Lewis,
Wash.
A belated report comes from Mr. and
Mrs. Fred J. Nichols, ’39, of the birth
last October 11 of a second son, Richard
Warren Nichols. The Nichols are living
at 273 Maple Ave., East Hempstead, L. I.,
N. Y., while Mr. Nichols is employed in
the Division of War Research at Columbia
University.
Announcement has been made of the
birth of a daughter, Kay Lee Orth, to
Capt. and” Mrs. W.+A:.“Bill’> Orth, Jr.,
’39, on February 16, at Eldorado, Kan.
Capt. Orth is at present attending CATS,
University of Chicago, Chicago, Ill, and
expects Mrs. Orth and the young daughter
to join him shortly.
Capt. and Mrs. Byrom T. Wehner, ’39,
are the proud parents of a daughter, Sharon
Anne Wehner, born on February 7. Mrs.
Wehner and two children are living at
2619 Wilkes, Davenport, Iowa, while Capt.
Wehner is stationed at the Rock Island
Arsenal, Rock Island, Ill.
A daughter, Ann Edwards, was born
to Capt. and Mrs. Stacy W. Edwards, ’40,
on March 17. The Edwards are making
their home at 437 Thelma Dr., San Antonio.
Announcement has been made of the
recent birth of a son, William Michael
Steed, to Mr .and Mrs. W. G. Steed, ’40,
Rte. 4, Jacksboro, Texas.
Lt. and Mrs. William M. Braziel, ’41,
are the proud parents of a son, Don M.
Braziel, who was born last December 12.
Mrs. Braziel and son are living in Long-
view, Texas ,while Lt. Braziel is overseas.
Capt. ‘and Mrs. A. L. Ballard, Jr., ’41,
have announced the birth of a son, Pat
Randell on April 4. The Bullards are sta-
tioned at Camp Polk, La.
A son, Charles Hamilton Cox, III, was
born last November 12 to Dr. and Mrs.
Charles H. Cox, Jr., ’41, 3130 Remington
Ave., Baltimore, Md. Dr. Cox is an Interne
at the University Hospital at Baltimore.
A belated report has been received of the
birth last November of a daughter, Ann
Marie, to Lt. and Mrs. H. J. Dubuisson,
2 Lt. Dubuisson, USMCR, is on foreign
uty.
Capt. and Mrs. William C. Gardner,
’41, are happy over the arrival of their
first child, William C. Gardner, Jr., at
the Walter Reed Hospital on January 27.
Capt. Gardner is an instructor in the
Bridge Section at the Engineer School,
Ft. Belvoir, Va.
Capt. and Mrs. C. W. Heitkamp, ’41, are
the proud parents of a daughter, Jan, who
was born on March 26, at Brooke General
Hospital, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. Mrs.
Heitkamp is making her home in New
Braunfels while Capt. Heitkamp is on
overseas duty.
A second daughter, Dorothy Jean, was
born on March 28 to Capt. and Mrs.
H. Walker, ’41. The Walkers have been
on duty at the POW Camp at Mexia, Tex-
as, for 28 months.
A daughter, Karen Ann Jarratt,
born on January 27 to Lt. and Mrs.

NETT recently moved from the campus
to San Francisco, where Col. Bennett has
been transferred to the Presidio. A vet-
eran of World War I, Col. Bennett has
been stationed at A. & M. for the past
several years.
COL. LEON L. KOTZEBUE is over-
seas at APO 18593, NYC. His son, LT.
ALBERT L. KOTZEBUE, ’45, is also
overseas, APO 417, NYC.
Mr. and Mrs. A. R. EHLERS, SR. of
LaGrange, Texas, suffered the loss of a
son, LT. ALFRED R. EHLERS, JR., ’45,
killed in action in Germany on February
22, 1945.
LT. COL. OSCAR A. SEWARD, JR.
is Director of Supplies and Facilities, Army
killed in action on January 7 while flying
the Hump between China and India.
F/O Olsen received his commission at
Randolph Field, Texas, in June, 1944. An
Air Transport pilot, he had been stationed
in the CBI area since September, 1944.
Prior to entering the service, he was
a civilian pilot with the ferrying com-
mand at Love Field, Texas.
A brother , Cpl. Robert F. Olsen, ’45,
was killed in action on Peleliu on Septem-
ber 27, 1944.
Sgt. Edward M. Schuyler, ’42
Mrs. Edward M. Schuyler, 4203 Somer-
ville, Dallas 6, has been notified that her
husband, Sgt. Edward M. Schuyler, prev-
iously reported missing in action, was
killed during the breakthrough near Col-
mar, Fronce, on December 14. Prior to
1942, Sgt.
Schuyler was employed as postmaster at
Murchison, Texas. At the time of his
death he was serving with the 141st In-
fantry of the 36th Division.
Surviving besides his wife are two
sisters.
Lt. Frank Gordon Weisiger, ’42
Lt. Frank G. Weisiger, ’42, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank A. Weisiger of Browns-
ville, Texas, was killed in action in the
Pacific area on March 2.
A veteran of pre-Pearl Harbor service,
Lt. Meisiger was stationed there at the
time of the Japanese attack. At the time
of his death he was a B-25 pilot with the
17th Photo Recon. Sqdn. of the 71st Recon.
Group. He received his pilot’s wings at
Stockton, Calif.
Surviving besides his parents are his
widow and one brother.
Lt. Jimmie S. Knight, ’43
Lt. Jimmie S. Knight, ’43, was killed in
action in Germany on February 27, ac-
cording to information received by his
wife, Mrs. Jimmie S. Knight, 1107 Ham-
mond Ave., San Antonio.
Lt. Knight had been overseas since last
October and was cited for bravery in Jan-
uary. He was serving as mines officer
with mechanized cavalry in the Ninth
Army.
Besides his widow, he is survived by a
baby daughter; his mother, Mrs. C. C.
Decherd of San Antonio; father, James
Knight of La Grange; and one sister.

Lt. Charles Harrington, ’44
Lt. Charles E. Harrington, ’44, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Harrington of
Plano, Texas, was killed in action on Iwo
Jima on March 3. Lt. Harrington entered
the Marine Corps in 1943, while a senior
at A. & M. Besides his parents, he is sur-
vived by his wife, Mrs. C. E. Harrington
of Monticello, Ark.
Sgt. Henry J. Canavespie, ’45
Sgt. Henry J. Canavespie, 45, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Canavespie, of Bryan, Tex-
as, was killed in action somewhere in
France on March 28.
A gunner on a bomber, Sgt. Canavespie
had been in the Air Corps for about two
years and in France only since January
16. Prior to moving to France he had
been in Brazil, West Africa and in England
since leaving the States.
Besides his parents, Sgt.
survived by one sister.
Pfc. Viek Clesi, Jr., ’45
Pfe. Vick Clesi, Jr., ’45, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Vick Clesi, 5338 Mercedes, Dallas, was
killed in action in Germany on March 14.
Entering the Army in July, 1943, he com-

Lt. Marshall C. Dunn, ’45
Lt. Marshall C. Dunn, ’45, Flying Fort-
ress pilot, was killed in action over Ger-
many on Februay 6, according to word
from his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde S.
Dunn of Electra, Texas.
Lt. Dunn attended A. & M. from 1941-
43, entering the Air Forces in February,
1943. He had been overseas since last
October, and was a member of the 8th Air
Force stationed in England. Holder of the
Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster, Lt. Dunn
had completed 15 combat missions when
last heard from on January 30.
Besides his parents, Lt. Dunn is survived
by two grandparents.
Lt. Alfred R. Ehlers, Jr., ’45
Lt. Alfred R. Ehlers, Jr., ’45, son of
Mr. ‘and Mrs. AR. ¥hlers, ’1%7, of la
Grange, Texas, was killed in action in Ger-
many on February 22. He was with the
6th Armored Division of the Third Army.
Lt. Ehlers attended A. & M. from 1941-
43, taking Liberal Arts.
Sgt. Mark W. Hertz, ’45
Sgt. Mark W. Hertz, ’45, previously re-
ported missing in action was killed in Ger-
many on January 10 while serving as a
gunner an a B-17. Sgt. Hertz joined the
Air Force in February, 1943, and at the
time of his death had completed 20 mis-
sions. He held the Air Medal with three
Clusters.
Sgt. Hertz is survived by his mother,
Mrs. W. S. Hertz, 1904 Branard, Houston ;
and a brother.
Lt. James Phillip Miller, ’45
Mrs. James P. Miller, 4224 Preston,
Dallas, has been notified that her husband,
Lt. James P. Miller, ’45, was killed in ac-
tion on Iwo Jima on March 9. Before en-
tering the service, Lt. Miller attended
A. & M. during the years 1940-43, taking
Liberal Arts. Besides his wife, he is sur-
vived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. D.
Miller of Denton.
S/Sgt. Ward C. Gillespie, ’46
S/Sgt. Ward C. Gillespie, ’46, previously
reported missing in action, has been re-
ported killed in action Jan. 10, on his 23rd
mission over Germany. Gunner on a Fly-
ing Fortress, Sgt. Gillespie had been award-
ed the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf
Clusters. He was in his sophomore year
at A. & M. when he entered the Air
Corps in February, 1943
Sgt. Gillespie is survived by his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Gillespie, 1808
Pron, Houston ; his grandparents; and two
aunts.
Pfc. Jack S. Lipscomb, ’46
Pfc. Jack S. Lipscomb, ’46, son of Maj.
John W. Lipscomb, State Hq. for Selective
Service, Austin, was killed in action on
Iwo Jima on March 3. He entered the
Marine Corps on February 26, 1944. Sta-
tioned on Guam for seven ‘months, he
landed on Iwo on February 21. A brother,
Ens. John W. Lipscomb, Jr., ’44, is serv-
ing in the Pacific.
Seaman Arthur G. Stricklin, ’47
Previously reported missing in action,
Seaman Arthur G. Stricklin, ’47, was lost
at sea in the sinking of the destroyer
Monahan in a typhoon. In the Navy near-
ly a year, he had been overseas eight
months. and wore three campaign stars.
Seaman Stricklin was the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Arhtur G. Stricklin, Sr., of 4605
Rose, Houston.
Harrell Gene Tilley, 47
Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Tilley of Luling,
Texas, have been notified that their son,
Harrell G. Tilley, ’47, previously reported

LT. COL. BURKE BREWSTER, in aec-
tive service with the 36th Division since
Nov., 1940, recently spent a leave with
his wife and two sons in Fort Worth,
Texas. Former Director of City Health and
Welfare, Col. ‘Brewster was granted a
leave of absence to enter active service
in 1940. He went overseas in April, 1943,
as Assistant Surgeon of the 6th Corps
when the division landed at Salerno. He
was wounded at Anzio. but joined his
division again in April, 1944. Two months
after his division entered Rome, Col.
Prewster suffered a broken leg when a
jeep in which he was riding overturned,
but he worked with the division through-
out its prep(aration for invasion of South-
ern France. Col. Brewster holds the Legion
of Merit and the Bronze Star.
LEONARD B. GOLASINSKI lives at

the Airline Brass Works in Houston be-
fore the war, but does not plan to re-
enter that business.

C. L. “JACK” BROCKSCHMIDT re-
cently joined the staff of the Standard Oil
Company of New Jersey as Gas Engi-
neer in foreign marketing coordination,
with headquarters in NYC. For the past
three years he has been Chief of the
Supply and Allocation Section, Natural
Gas Division, Office of War Utilities, War
Production Board, Washington, D. C. He
was called to the W.P.B. from the Mis-
sissippi River Fuel Corp. of St. Louis,
Mo., where he had served eleven years as
Combustion Engineer. He has done an
outstanding job in handling natural gas
allocations and is one of the best known
experts in the natural gas field.

National Guard was mobilized in 1940.
He was brought back from England sev-
eral months ago to attend the Army and
Navy Staff College. Mrs. Wayman and

MAJ. HORACE E. BELSHER is serv-
ing as an instructor in engineering at an
infantry training center of the Chinese
Training Center, U. S. Army in south-
western China. Before going on active

MAJOR WILLIS E. COLLINS, APO

money and reports about 15 Aggies in his
division. Major Collins has been awarded
the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious
service in Germany.
DR. CHARLES W. NEAL, San Antonio,
has been appointed by Gov. Stevenson for
a two-year term to the State Board of
Veterinary Examiners.
LT. HOMER E. THOMPSON is attend-
ing CAT School Yale University, New
Haven, Conn. He and Capt. Willis Nolan,
’83 made arrangements for an April 21
Muster, the only one officially scheduled
in Conn. Lt. Thompson writes that he is
busy trying to learn as much about the
Japanese as possible, even studying their
language. He and other officers are being
trained to administer affairs in the Jap-
anese territory that might be occupied by
U. S. Forces.

released from active duty to return to an
essential industry and will return to his
former company, the Atlantic Refining Co.

SAMUEL C. SMITH, APO 772, ‘NYC, is
stationed in Marseilles, France, and re-
ports his location very pleasant.
MAJOR THOMAS H. McDOWELL, Bon-
ham, Texas, attached to headquarters of
a field artillery battalion of the 25th Div-
ision on Luzon, has received the Bronze
Star Medal for meritorious service against
the Japanese on Vella Lavella in the
Solomons from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15, 1943.
He had previously been commended for
service as a liaison officer of an infantry
unit on Guadalcanal when suffering from
malaria, he directed fire against the enemy
from a post in front of the infantry
lines, and for organizing and commanding
a field artillery battalion with personnel
drawn from four different battalions and
equipped with foreign material.

COL. JOHN B. CORNETT, husband of
Mrs. John B. Cornett, 304 East Ashby
Place, San Antonio, has been reported
missing in action over Austria since March
22. Overseas since June, 1944, Col. Cornett
had recently assumed command of a
Liberator Group of the 15th Air Force in
Italy. He was awarded the Air Medal for
leading his group on combat missions
against Nazi transportation centers.
MAJOR TOMMY B. GOODRICH is sta-
tioned at Hq., AAF Western Flying Train-
ing Command, Santa Ana, Calif.
LT. COL. WELDON A. STEINMANN
has been named director of administration
of services at Ellington Field near Hous-
ton. He has been on active duty since
March, 1941 and before that time was
with The Texas Company of Port Arthur.
LT. COL. JOHN J. GATES has been
reassigned to Camp Fannin, Tex., Ha.,
IRTC, from the Redistribution Station at
Miami Beach, Fla. He returned last winter
from extensive service in the Pacific. He
