survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Morgan
Sullivan; and three sisters.
Mr. Sullivan came to A. & M. in 1908
as secretary to the president and later
was made secretary of the Feed Control
Division of the Texas Agricultural Expe-
riment Station. In 1919 he became business
manager of athletics, a position he held
until September 1931, when he returned
to the Feed Control Division. He retired
from active work in 1942.
Most A. & M. men best remember
“Sully” for his outstanding work with
the Athletic Department and in building
the present physical plant at Kyle Field.
E. H. Sternenberg, ‘97
E. H. Sternerberg, 97, died at his home
in Nordheim, Texas, on February 28. He
had been Superintendent of Schools in
Nordheim, but retired two years ago due
to ill health. He was a brother of Paul
L. Sternenberg, ’05.
Lee Coffman, ’99
Lee Coffman, ’99, of Benjamin, Texas,
died in March of injuries received in an
automobile accident. He was District
Clerk at Benjamin. Mr. Coffman was a
student at A. & M. during the years
1895-96.
Elton P. Hunter, ’00
E. P. “Red” Hunter, age 63, Vice-Pres-
ident and General Manager of Wm.Cameron
& Company, Waco, died in that city on
March 23, following a stroke earlier in the
week.
Born at Hunter, Comal County, he had
been a member of the Cameron organiza-
tion since his A. & M. days. He served
two terms as president of the Lumber-
men’s Association of Texas and was one
of the best-known men in the lumber
field in the Southwest.
In 1922-23 the Association of Former
Students was reorganized in its present
corporate form and for the first time in its
history placed on a sound financial basis.
The reorganization was effected under
Mr. Hunter’s leadership. He was also a
past president of the Waco A. & M. Club,
and was active in the civie affairs of that
city. Throughout his lifetime he was one
of the strongest, most active and loyal
alumni of the A. & M. College. His wife
is his only survivor.
Thomas J. Pinson, Sr.. ’01
Thomas J. Pinson, Sr.. ’'01, died at a
Dallas hospital on oanuary 5. He was a
pioneer citizen of Forney, where he lived
throughout his life. He attended Texas
A. & M. during the years 1898-1901, stu-
dying Mechanical Engineering.
Dillard B. Pitts, ’35
Dillard B. Pitts, ’35, died in December,
1944, of heart failure brought on by ex-
citement when his hunting partner was
accidentally shot. He was living at Athens,
Texas, at the time of his death.
Capt. Edward H. Prove, ’41
Edward H. Prove, ’41, son of
. Hugo Prove of Lockhart,
Texas, was killed in action in Germany on
March 6. Capt. Prove had entered the
service immediately after graduating from
A. & M. in 1941, and had been overseas
several months with the field artillery.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Ruth Prove, also of Lockhart.
Major Paul J. Stach, ’41
Stevie Stach, Box 307, Rosenberg,
has been notified that her son,
Major Paul J. Stach, ’41, previously re-
ported missing in action over Germany
since June 6, 1944, was killed in action
on June 8. Major Stach was pilot of a
Flying Fortress and had flown 60 com-
bat missions. Besides his mother, Major
Stach is survived by his wife and son of
Sarasota, Fla., one brother, Capt. Stan-
A. Stach, ’86, at present in a hos-
pital in England; and one sister.

Lt. Joe ‘R.- Clark, Jr., ’43
Lt. Joe R. Clark, Jr., ’43, ‘son of Mr.
and Mrs. Joe R. Clark, Box 101, Roby,
Texas, was killed in action January 21 in
Luxembourg. Lt. Clark went into active
service on graduation from A. & M. in
May, 1943, and left for overseas duty in
July, 1944. The field artillery battery of
which Lt. Clark was a member had seen
heavy action for some time.
Lt. William G. Goodman, ’43
Lt. William G. “Bill” Goodman, ’43, son
of Mrs. W. E. Dunlap of Houston and
Burleigh Goodman, also of Houston, was
killed in action in Luxembourg on Jan-
uary 18. Lt. Goodman received his com-
mission at Ft. Benning, Ga., and went
overseas in August, 1944. He was serving
with the 80th Division of the Third Army,

Mincavage-Gossett
The marriage of 2nd Lt. Alice M. Min-
cavage, an army nurse, to 1st. Lt. Robert
B. Gossett, 42, of Houston, Texas, took
place in Marseilles, France, shortly before
Christmas. Lt. Gossett, at present on duty
with the Fifth Army, will soon return to
the States to join his wife, who has been
returned under the army rotation plan.
Alexander-Taylor
Lt. Warrena Alexander, an army nurse,
of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Lt. Thomas
J. Taylor, ’44, were married on February
19 at San Antonio, Texas. Lt. Taylor is a
bombardier-navigator instructor at MAATF,
Midland, Texas, and Mrs. Taylor is sta-
tioned at Harmon Gen. Hosp., Longview.
Rice-Bartlett
Miss Claire Rice and Lt. Richard D.
Bartlett, 44, were married -in February.
Lt. Bartlett recently returned from over-
seas duty and is at present at Kingman
AAF, Kingman, Ariz.
Mr. Russell E. Kimmel of Dayton, Ohio,
has announced the engagement and ap-
proaching marriage of his daughter, Ma-
rianna, to Major James Y. Alexander,
’38, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R Alexander,
23, of College Station. The wedding will
take place on April 28 at Oakwood, Ohio.
Major Alexander is at present stationed’
at Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio.
BIRTHS
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Woodall, ’31, of
Shreveport, La., are the proud parents of
a daughter, Carolyn, born on February 20.
The Woodalls also have a son, Phil, age
3. Mr. Woodall is with the United Gas
Pipeline Co. in Shreveport.
A son, George E. Carpenter, Jr., was
born on January 24 in Washington, D. C.,
to Lt. Col. and Mrs. George E. Carpenter,
’32, 513 Payne, Alexandria, Va. Father
George was with the Humble Co. before
going on active duty, and was a star
baseball performer during his cadet days.
Major and Mrs. J. G. Hamner, ’36, 559
Main St., Metuchen, N. J., have announced
the birth of their second child, a daughter
named Mary Jean, on February 18. They
also have a son.
A daughter, Mary Jane, was born on
February 23 to Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Stan-
ton, ’40. The Stantons, who live at 410
Unadilla, Shreveport, La., also have a
son, Larry.
Announcement has been made of the
birth of a daughter, Harriet Grace McKee,
to Lt. and Mrs. Harry W. McKee, 41, on
February 16. Mrs. McKee and the young
daughter are making their home at 2517
Montgomery Way, Sacramento 17, Calif.,
while Lt. McKee is on foreign duty.
Thomas Lee Wakefield was born on
November 27 at Walter Reed Gen. Hosp.,
Washington, D. C., to Lt. and Mrs. Leon
A. Wakefield, ’42. The Wakefields are
living in Apt. 202, 2713 Lee Blvd., Ar-
lington, Va.
Lt. and Mrs. Joseph M. Farrell, Jr., *44
are the proud parents of a daughter, Pame-
la Kaye, born on March 2. Lt. Farrell is
assigned to duty with the 1697th SCV

James Sullivan, retired veteran em-
ployee of Texas A. & M., and for twelve
years business manager of athletics, died

Sgt. Harold Fink, ’44
Szt. Harold Fink, ’44, son of Mrs.
Minnie Fink, 2202 East Alabama, Houston,
was overseas for only three and a half
weeks when he was killed in action near
Alsace-Lorraine on January Ta. Sgt. Fink
| was inducted into service in March, 1943,
during his senior year at A. & M., and
landed in France in December, 1944. Sur-
viving besides his mother are one brother
and two sisters.
Lt. Richard LaNier Haxthausen, ’44
Lt. Richard LaNier Haxthausen, ’44, of
the Marines, died in an airplane crash at
Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, on February
23. Lt. Haxthausen attended A. & M.
from 1940-41, and worked for the Shell
Geophysical Laboratories prior to entering
the service in August, 1942. He received
his commission as a marine fighter pilot
in November, 1943, at Pensacola, Fla.
Assigned to the famed Black Sheep Squad-
ron, Lt. Haxthausen was stationed in
California a year before going overseas.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Marcell T. Haxthausen of 1608 Har-
vard, Houston ; four sisters; and both his
grandmothers.
Lt. Carl R. Van Hook, ’44
Lt. Carl R. Van Hook, ’44, son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Van Hook, Clements Ave.,
Somerset, Kentucky, was killed in action
in Holland on March 1. He entered the
Army in March, 1943, during his senior
year at A. & M. He was commissioned in
July, 1944, and went overseas in October.
Stationed in England for a short time. Lt.
Van Hook then sow active serv-
ice in France and Belgium before entering
Holland. Besides his parents, he is sur-
vived by three brothers and two sisters.
Lt. George A. Williams, ‘44
Mrs. C. C. Hutchins, Rt. 4, Woodward,
Okla., has been notified that her son, Lt.
George A. Williams, ’44, was killed in an
airplane accident over India on January
26. Pilot of a P-27 Thunderbolt, Lt. Wil-
liams entered the service in February,
1943, while a student at A. & M. He had
been overseas since August, 1944.
Lt. Robert R. Braswell, ’45
Lt. Robert R. Braswell, ’45, only child
of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Braswell of Yoa-
kum, Texas, died of wounds received on
Iwo Jima, March 3. He was wounded on
Saipan and had only recently returned to
active duty. Lt. Braswell attended A. &
M. from 1941-42. He received his commis-
sion at Bremerton, Washington.
Lt. Joseph D. Longley, ’45
Lt. Joseph D. Longley, ’45, previously
reported missing in action, was killed in
action in France on January 6. He at-
tended A. & M. from 1941-43, taking
Industrial Education. Survivors are his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Longley,
Giddings, Texas; and a brother, Lt. John
B. Longley, ’43, now on overseas duty.
Lt. Joe T. Mason, Jr., ’45
Lt. Joe T. Mason, Jr., ’45, was killed in
action February 18 in Germany according
to word from his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. T. Mason, Rt. 5, Box 240, Memphis,
Tenn. He had previously been missing in
action. Lt. Mason entered the service in
December, 1942, and received his commis-

Lt. Cyrus M. McCaskill, ’45
Lt. Cyrus M. McCaskill, ’45, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Cyrus W. McCaskill, Ennis, Tex-

McCaskill received his commission at Ft.

awarded the Distinguished Service
Medal. Gen. Williams served as
commanding officer of the 1st
Bombardment Division from Au-
gust, 1943, to September, 1944,
and his citation read in part: “By
his inspiring leadership and techni-
cal knowledge gained through per-
sonal participation in numerous
high-altitude daylight combat mis-
sions, he was able to develop the
bombing technique to such a high | —
degree that remarkable results
were obtained”.

world.” He was in a hospital over
there recuperating from a hernia
operation and in walked LT. COL.
PHILLIP JOHN, ’32, who was
placed in the bed next to his for
an identical operation. The two
of them are lining up an April 21
Muster and request that any Aggies
around them get in touch with them
immediately.
“This gal’s arrival accounts
for my laxity in a number of
things, including work on the ’26
book. I’ve even neglected magazine
serving aboard a destroyer. Seaman Still-
wagon entered the Navy in May, 1944,
immediately after completing his freshman
year at A. & M. On August 25 he left for
Pearl Harbor aond was assigned to a
destroyer on October 7. His ship, along
with others, stopped a Jap task force from
getting into Leyte Gulf and disrupting land-
ing operations.

Wayne Mueller, ’40, was killed in
action in December, 1943 in the

ran into heavy anti-aircraft fire.

velop a football game that would
