card from her husband, LT. MEL-
VIN MILLARD, prisoner of war
of the Japanese. The card was
‘written from Prison Camp 2 in the
Philippines, and part of the mes-
sage had been torn off.

at Ford Ord, Calif.
CAPT. ROY W. GILLETTE has
been transferred to Camp Swift,
Texas, where he is assigned to

CAPT. SAMMY DWYER, JR., son of
Mr. Sam J. Dwyer, El Paso, has been re-
ported missing in action in France as of
January 16. Capt. Dwyer was with a tank
outfit and had been overseas only a short
time. His young son, Sammy, III, is mak-
ing his home with his grandparents, Judge
and Mrs. W. S. Barron, Bryan, Texas.
CAPT. FRANK M. WOOD, JR., San
Angelo, was recently assigned as flight
test officer at Fort Worth AAF, Fort
Worth, Texas. Before entering the service,
Capt, Wood was a wool warehouseman. .

twenty months aboard a minesweeper
around New Guinea and Australia,” writes
Lt. (jg) E. J. BUTSCHEK, RFD 1, Moul-
ton, Texas. . . . IBREY T. BONNETTE has
moved to Worland, Wyo., and gets mail

is on duty at APO 246, San Francisco.
MAJ. CHARLES R, McINTIRE, Browns-
ville, Texas, is now stationed somewhere
in Italy with one of the oldest P-38 Light-
ning Fighter Groups of the 15th Air
Force. The Group was the first Lightning
Fighter Group to take part in the in-
vasion of North Africa and scored the
first aerial victory during the Tunisian
Campaign. The Group was recently award-
ed the Distinguished Unit Citation for
spectacular performance in aerial combat
over Steyr, Austria. Maj. McIntire re-
ceived his first commission and won his
wings at Stockton, Calif., in 1941. Mrs.
McIntire and their daughter live at 20615

CAPT. GREEN R. DAVIS, an 8th Air
Force pilot on a B-24 Liberator, recently
celebrated a double occasion when he was
promoted to the rank of Major and award-
ed the Distinguished Flying Cross within
the space of a short time. He received
the DFC “for extraordinary achievement
on many bombardment missions over en-
emy occupied continental Europe.” At
present Maj. Davis is serving a
Bombardment Squadron Officer. He has
participated in 23 combat sorties over en-
emy territory in the destruction of vital
. targets, and has had the distinction of
leading the entire 8th Air Force on more
than one occasion. He also holds the
Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
Mrs. Davis is living at 2514 E. 2nd St.,
Austin.

For destroying an enemy posi-
tion with his disabled tank on Sai-
pan and for knocking out three
enemy guns during the battle for
Tinian, Marine 1ST LT. THOMAS
M. HORNE of Childress has been
awarded the Navy Cross and the
Bronze Star. Prior to entering the
Marine Corps in June, 1942, he
was an oil field rotary driller. He
received his degree in Civil En-
gineering.
WALTER BRITTEN, College
Station, served as livestock auc-
tioneer at the registered Brahma
cattle sale and other sales at this
year’s Houston Livestock Show. He
makes his headquarters at College
Station and has steadily developed
as a livestock auctioneer.
CAPTAIN JAMES N. “JIM”
THOMASON, a pilot with the Cru-
saders, veteran 13th AAF medium
bombardment unit in the SW Paci-
fic, wears the Air Medal with four
bronze Oak Leaf Clusters for
achievement in aerial combat. He
had flown fifty-six missions at
last report, and seems to be as
durable as he was in the days
when he was a 60 minute blocking
back on the great Aggie football
teams of his day.
MARSHALL ROBNETT, dis-
charged from the army because of
a football knee, played with the
Chicago Card-Pitt Steelers in Pro
football last fall. He likes the pro
game and has made a fine record.

cool and effective direction of ar-
tillery fire during the Saipan
and Tinian invasions. He has been
in the Marine Corps since 1941,
and saw action in the Marshalls
as well as the Marianas.
CAPT. FRANK R. LEWIS, at
present at the MP School, IRTC,
Camp Robinson, Ark., holds the
Bronze Star for meritorious serv-
ice in Tunisia and Sicily.

sends news of the birth of a daugh-

cently promoted to that rank.
1ST LT. JOSEPH C. BRADEN, Hous-
ton, was recently promoted to the rank of
Captain while serving on the Fifth Army
front in Italy. Formerly reconnaissance
officer, liaison officer, battery commander
and staff officer, Capt. Braden is now com-
munications officer in a IV Corps field
artillery battalion. He holds the Air
Medal and theater decorations.

Medal has been awarded to LT. WILLIAM
A. SANDERS, JR., pilot of an 8th Air
Force B-17 Flying Fortress, for ‘““meritor-
ious achievement” while participating in
bombing missions to military and indust-
rial targets in Germany. He entered the
Army in 1941 and served as an infantry
officer until 1943. Mrs. Sanders and their
daughter live at 416 W. Henderson St.,

LT. FRANK B. HARVEY, APO 512,
NYC, is in Italy after having been on
duty in North Africa and the Middle East.
He writes, “The Turkey Day game came
in swell over in Egypt, and I sweated out
those four downs on the Texas two yard
line just as much as you all did who saw

for “‘meritorious achievement in aerial
flight.” A member of a 15th Air Force
heavy bombardment unit based in Italy,
he has flown seven combat missions over
enemy territory as a bombardier on a
Flying Fortress. Lt, Evans’ unit recently
became the first of its kind in the U. S.
Air Forces to fly 400 bombing missions
against the enemy.

lations in the path of the Allied armies

was recently awarded the Air Medal for
meritorious achievement while participa-
ting in aerial flight in connection with
military operations against the enemy
from November 5, 1944 to December 22,
1944 in Germany. He successfully flew
35 sorties for adjustment of artillery fire
in support of infantry in attack against
the enemy and on patrol missions for
the purpose of gaining information con-
cerning the enemy. Lt. Ware frequently
encountered exposure to enemy fire from
anti-aircraft and enemy planes, and suc-
cessfully accomplished his missions with
disregard for personal safety in the
presence of intense personal danger.

S/SGT. IRA V. GLASS, Hughes
Springs, Texas, upper turret gunner of a
B-24 Liberator in the 15th Air Force in
Italy, recently flew his 25th mission, and
is now back in the States. He participated
in numerous bombing attacks on German
targets while overseas, and holds the
Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters
for “meritorious achievement during ae-
rial flights over enemy territory.” He is
also authorized to wear the Distinguished
Unit Badge as a member of a heavy
bombardment group which has been cited
by the War Department for “outstanding
performance of duty in armed conflict
with the enemy.” Sgt. Glass received his

1ST. LT. JOAN R. SINGLETON, serv-
ing with the 80th Infantry Division, has
been awarded the Bronze Star for meri-
torious achievement in France on Decem-
ber 2, 1944. Lt. Singleton led a patrol
through heavily wooded territory known
to contain enemy troops, and obtained
valuable and necessary information which
was of great importance in completing
plans for the assault on the morning of
December 4. His actions enabled the bat-
talion to take its objective on that day.
Lt. Singleton also holds the Purple Heart.
Mrs. Singleton is living at 2104 Neches
St., Beaumont.
LT. HERBERT SKIDMORE partici-
pated in the initial landings , on Leyte
and is still located in the Philippines . .
