C. 3 Irwin-Trew Miss Mary Cecil Irwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Irwin of Brookston, Tex- as, was married on August 6 to Ernest M. Trew, Jr., ’40, County Agent at Linden, Texas. Ewald-Grote A belated report has been received of the marriage last May 7 of Miss Louise Ewald of San Angelo, Texas, to Capt. “James F. Grote, ’40. Capt. Grote, who had been on duty in the South Pacific 20 months before his leave in May, is now back in New Guinea. Veatch-Penuel Miss’ Mary Virginia Veatch of Minco, Oklahoma, became the bride of Capt. Victor B. Penuel, Jr., ’42, on December 25. Capt. Penuel will soon return to his overseas “location. Mullins-Pendleton Lt. (jg) W. L. Pendleton, ’42, Coronado Hotel, Rm. 121, Coronado, Calif., reports his marriage on November 16 to Miss Selma Mullins of Stratford, Texas. Ainsworth-Ellison Announcement has been made of the marriage last November of Miss Inez Ainsworth to J. Howard Ellison, ’42. Mr. and Mrs. Ellison are making their home in Bogalusa, La. Smith-Vivian Miss Louise Smith of Austin, Texas, was married to Capt. J. M. “Bill” Vivian, on December 19. Capt. Vivian, who was reported missing in action over Germany last June, returned in December, and in January reported to Santa Monica, Calif. Rucker-Dalby Miss Jaudell Rucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rucker, Guthrie, Texas, was married to Frederick Dalby, ’43, on Sep- tember 16. They are making their home in Aspermont, Texas. Tisdale-Hutcheson The marriage of Miss Ruby Lee Tisdale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Tisdale, Dallas, to Lt. (jg) J. L. Hutcheson, ’44, took place recently. Ati present the couple are making their home in Alameda, Calif., where Lt. Hutcheson is stationed. Heinz-Riddling Miss Bette Kaye Heinz of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Lt. Wm. P. Riddling, ’45, were married on October 26. Mrs. Riddling is at present living at 3135 Hemphill, Ft. Worth, while Lt. Riddling is stationed at Davis Monthan Field, Tucson, Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Takacs, ’39, 3816 1-2 Dover, Houston, became the happy parents of a daughter, Karen Sue, last Oct. 7. Born to Lt. and ‘Mrs. John L. Kent, ’41, a son, John Lee, Jr., on November 9. Lt. Kent is serving overseas, APO 471, San Francisco, and Mrs. Kent and young son are making their home in Newton, Texas. News has been received of the birth of a son to Sgt. and Mrs. J. W. Aycock, ’41, in November. Sgt. Aycock is at present stationed “at the Weather Station, 36th St., Airport, Miami, 36, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. George Van Etten, ’41, 314 Beverly Ave., Millbrae, Calif., are the proud parents of a daughter, Martha Frances, born at San Mateo, Calif., on December 22. Yates, on duty at APO 519, NYC., has not yet seen his young daughter. Mighty proud of T. H. Jackson, III, born August 19, are Lt. and Mrs. Thomas H. Jackson, Jr., ’42. Lt. Jackson is at pre- sent stationed at Camp Wolters, Texas. Lt. and Mrs. Irvine F. Smither, ’42, 1638 E. Gadsden St., Pensacola, Fla., an- nounce the arrival of a daughter, Linda Lee Smither, on December 13 at the Pen- sacola Hospital. Little Carolyn Louise arrived at the home of Lt. and Mrs. Louis P. White, ’43, on ‘January 14. The Whites are on duty at Ft. Sill, Okla. Lt. and Mrs. Wm. R. Sibley, Jr., *43, have announced the birth of a daughter on November 4. Lt. Sibley is serving over- seas with the Marine Corps, and Mrs. Sibley and young daughter are making their home at Breckenridge, Texas. Announcement has been made of the birth of a son, Robert Carroll, to Lt. and Mrs. Carroll A. Magers, Jr., 43, on Nov. 16, at Breckenridge, Texas. Lt. Magers is on duty at APO 667, NYC. Floyd Wayne Bridges was born on Dec. 22 at San Angelo, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. Louis A. Bridges, 43, 10x 81, Bronte, Texas. Lt. and Mrs. Charles R. Hancock, °’43, are happy over the birth of a son, Char- les Raymond, Jr., on November 20 in San Antonio, Texas, where Mrs. Hancock and young son are living. Lt. Hancock is on overseas duty. News has just been received of the birth of a daughter, Barbara Eugenia. to Lt. and Mrs. Robert Moore, *43, on Sep- tember 2. Mrs. Moore and young daughter are living at 2401 Stateline Ave., Texar- kana, Texas, while Lt. Moore is serving overseas. Lt. and Mrs. R. C. Johnson, Jr., ‘44, are the proud parents of a daughter, Mary Ray, born in Galveston on November 18. Mrs. Johnson and young daughter are making their home at 614 13th, Galveston, while Lt. Johnson is on foreign duty. SILVER TAPS H. F. Fischer, °89 The Association Office has just been ad- vised of the death of H. F. Fischer, ’89, on July 12, 1943. Joseph Weidel, “93 Joseph Weidel, ’93, who lived at 637 Second St., National City, Calif., died of heart trouble on December 6, last, accord- ing to word received by Dr. F. E. Giesecke from Mrs. Weidel. He was a retired rail- road executive, having been in the wvalua- tion department of the Santa Fe Railroad at Chicago for many years. He and Mrs. Weidel moved to California a few years ago upon his retirement. Major Richard F. Burges, ’95 Major Richard F. Burges, ’95, age 72, former Texas legislator and World War I hero, died at El Paso on January 13. He attended Texas A. & M. from 1901-1903 and had practiced law in El Paso for many years. He was an outstanding authority cn laws pertaining to irrigation and was an authority on Texas history. He was bern at Seguin. Frederick Carl Groos, "03 Frederick Carl Groos, ’03, died in De- cember at his home in San Antonio at the age of 61. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth Groos, three sons; one daugh- ter; his mother; four sisters; one broth- er; four grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Pfc. William C. Vincent, 32 Pfe. William C. Vincent, ’32, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Vincent, 502 Marie, Hous- ton, has been killed in action in Germany on December 6. He attended A. & M. from ’°28-‘29. Besides his parents, Pfe. Vincent is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lyda V. Vincent, also of Houston. Juan C. Doria Paz, 31% Juan C. Doria Paz, ’34, Bolivar 194, Monterrey, N. L., Mexico, died on Decem- ber 28. He attended A. & M. from ’29- ’34, receiving a degree in Civil Engineering, and was in the Construction business at Monterrey at the time of his death. Capt. Lee Sommers, ’37 Word has been received of the death of Capt. Lee Sommers, ’37, at Brest. Re- quest for further information at his hometown address, 1314 W. Ashby, San Antonio, has been unsuccessful. Anyone knowing any details of Capt. Sommers’ death, please report to the Association Office, College Station, Texas. Capt. Som- mers attended A. & M. from ’31-’37, re- ceiving a degree in Electrical Engineering. Capt. James Frank House, ’38 Capt. James F. House, ’38, previously reported missing in action, has since been reported as killed in action on December 4 in France. He received his degree in majoring in Accounting and Statistics. Mrs. House and their two little daughters are making their home in Bryan. ; Pvt. Harry vo Goodloe, 39 Pvt. Harry F. Goodloe, son of Mrs. Iva Goodloe, 4938 Victor, Dallas, has been killed in action in Germany, where he was serving with the infantry. He enterea a. & M. in 1935, graduating with a B. S. degree in Agriculture in 1939. While at . & M., Pvt. Goodloe headed the Aggie judging team which competed in inter- national contests in Chicage and Kansas City, and won a trip to Europe in 1939 by placing first in a cotton study tour. He was employed as junior agronomist with the Department of Agriculture at Logan, Utah, when he enlisted last April. Besides his mother, Pvt. Goodloe is survived by his wife; a brother; and two sisters. Lt. John B. Naughton, °’39 Lt. John B. Naughton, ’39, overseas for more - than thirty months, was killed in action in Italy on December 24. He attend- ed A. & M. from ’35-’39, receiving a de- gree in Agriculture. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Naughton, Waxahachie, Texas. Pvt. Paul D. Chaney, "43 Pvt. Paul D. Chaney, '43.son of Mr. and Mrs. P. D. A member of the Board of Directors of the College, Col. Buchanan attended his first meeting in several years when the Board met at College on January 13th. His next as- signment is not known. He served in the Marine Corps in World War I. When he entered the service he was Manager of the Heep Dairy interests at Buda and Austin. COL. JOHN T. WALKER, USMC, has been promoted to the rank of Brig. Gen. He is a marine veteran s'nce World War I, and achieved fame in leading the U.S. assault on Eniwetok. Most recently he has been Chief of Staff, 1st Marine Prov. Brigade on Guam. His present assignment is not known. PAUL B. DUNKLE, Substation 6, Den- ton, Texas, has been in service with A. & M. A., reports keeping mighty busy: Coke R.iP. “PETE” FOLEY gets mail at 442 Louisiana St., was killed in action in Germany on Decem- ber 16. He attended A. & M. from ’39- ’43, taking Civil Engineering. Sgt. William P. Noa, Jr., ’43 Mrs. . P. Noa, 302 S. Washington Ave., El Dorado, Ark. reports that her son, Sgt. “Billy” Noa, Jr., ’43, was killed in i: on December 31 in France, where he was serving with an engineering regiment attached to the Third Army. Sgt. Noa attended A. & M. from 1939-43, graduating in June, 1943, with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Sgt. Marvin C. Mitchell, Sgt. Marvin C. Mitchell, ’43, son of Claude R. Mitchell of Gainesville, Texas, was killed in action on Leyte on Decem- ber 3. He attended A. & M. from 1939- ’40, taking Agriculture. Besides his father, Sgt. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eula Frost Mitchell, of Richmond, Calif. ’43 Pfc. Louden C. Doney, III, ’43 Pfe. Louden C. Doney, III, ’43, son of Lt. Col. and Mrs. L. C. Doney, Jr., ’18, 251 Albany St., San Antonio 2, formerly of Houston, was killed in France on Jan- uary 3. Pvt. Doney was a sophomore at A. & ‘M. when he entered the services shortly after Pearl Harbor, and had been overseas about three mouths at the time of his death. Lt. Cloy D. Farley, Jr., ’44 Lt. Cloy D. Farley, Jr., ’44, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Farley, Box 397, Midland, Calif., was killed in action in France on August 16. He attended A. & M. from ’40-’43, taking Mechanical Engineering. Besides his parents, Lt. Farley is sur- vived by a brother. Cesar F. Martinez, ’44 A/S Oscar N. Martinez, ’44, P. Mier Ote 1023, Monterrey, Mexico, reports the death of his brother, Cesar F. Martinez, on July 12, 1944, after a year’s illness. He was in “D” Company Engineers while at A. &M. and attended from ’40-’44, taking Mechanical Engineering. Roy Y. Deveny, Jr., ’45 Roy Y. Deveny, Jr., 45, AOM 3 /¢, only son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Y. Deveny, Rte. 2, Axtell, Texas, was killed in action on October 25. He attended A. & M. from ’41-’42, taking Aeronautical Engineering, and entered the Naval Air Corps in May, 1943. Lt. J. T. Turbeville, Jr., ’45 Lit. J. 27. Turbeville,. ‘Jr. ’45,. sonyof Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Turbeville, 4739 Blod- gett, Houston, has been reported killed in action on December 9 when his plane crashed in the Burma jungles. Lt. Turbe- ville, who was previously reported missing in action, had over 60 combat missions, held the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He attended A. & M. from ’41-’42, taking I. E. Cpl. Robert F. Olsen, ’45 Cpl. Robert F. Olsen, ’45, previously reported missing in action, was killed in action on September 27 on Peleliu, while participating in his first battle. He at- tended A. & M.from ’41-’43, taking Mech- anical Engineering. Upon entering the Marine Corps, Cpl. Olsen received training at Georgia Tech, and was sent overseas in May, 1944. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Olsen, 6658 Meadow- lawn, Houston; a brother, F/O John Paul Olsen, ’41, now reported missing in action ; and his grandmothers. William P. Ballard, Jr., ’45 William P. Ballard, Jr., ’45, S 1 /¢, who was rescued when his ship was tor- pedoed and sunk on October 27, 1942, was killed on October 28, 1942, when the rescue ship was also sunk. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Ballard, 5548 Richmond Ave., Dallas, have received his Purple Heart. Be- sides his parents, Ballard is survived by one brother. Lt. William P. Johnson, ’45 Lt. William P. Johnson, ’45, was killed on September 9 at Strother Field, Win- field, Kansas, in a crash of a fighter plane during a combat training flight. Lt. Johnson received his wings and commis- sion at Moore Field, Mission, Texas, in May, 1944. He is survived by ‘his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Johnson, Cleveland, Texas; and one brother. Cpl. Marion Flynt, Jr., ’45 Cpl. Marion Flynt, Jr., ’45, son of Capt. Marion Flynt, Camp Swift, Texas, was killed in action in Belgium on De- cember 27. Cpl. Flynt attended A. & M. from ’41-.°43, taking Mechanical Engineer- ing. Besides his father, he is survived by a sister. Lt. William F. Lovett, Jr., Lt. William F. Lovett, Jr., of Major and Mrs. W. F. Lovett, Edward Apt. 8-C, Jefferson City, Mo., was killed in action on September 15 while returning from an operational mis- sion in China. Lt. Lovett attended A. & M. from 1941-1942, taking an Engineering course. He entered the Air Corps before finishing college, and became a fighter pilot flying a P-51. 45 ’45, son Prince Sgt. Hubert Roussel, Jr., ’46 Sgt. Hubert Roussel, Jr., '46, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Roussel, 6515 Brompton, Houston, was killed in an airplane crash recently after a B-29 raid over Saipan. He was radio operator and gunner on the plane. Sgt. Roussel atteneded A. & M. from ’42-’43, taking Liberal Arts. Corpus Christi, Texas. . . . JOHN A. WILLIAMSON is owner and manager of John A.
