The marriage of Miss L. Estelle Smith
to Lt. J. R. Hardy, USNR, ’317, took place
October 4 in Glendale, California. Lt.
Hardy recently returned to the States
from 21 months of service in the South
Pacific and is temporariiy based on the
West Coast, where he and Mrs. Hardy are
making their home.

Miss Viola Manasterski, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John Manasterski, Cando, North
Dakota, became the bride of Lt. Bernard
G. Christian, ’38, on September 26 in
Dallas, Texas. Lt. Christian is at present
stationed at Wichita, Kansas.
Brotherton-Crane
Announcement has been made of the
marriage on October 21 of Miss Myrtle
Brotherton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.
R. Brotherton, Comstock, Texas, to Major
Edgar J. Crane, 38. Major Crane recently
returned © from overseas duty, and the
couple will make their home in Oceanside,
Calif., where he will be stationed at Camp
Pendleton.

Announcement has been made of the
marriage of Miss Mary K. Boyce of Wil-
mington, Del., to Lt. Willard P. Worley,
’43, of Dallas, on October 1 in Wilming-
ton. The couple will reside at Red Bank,
N. J., where Lt. Worley is stationed at
Ft. Monmouth.

The marriage of Miss Ann Pope of
Palestine, Texas, to Lt. Charles Garner,
’44, took place in November.
Scardino-Cangelosi
The marriage of Miss Anthonette Scar-
dino, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Scardino of Bryan, Texas, and Lt. Anthony
D. Cangelosi, ’44, was solemnized on
October 15 at Bryan. Lt. and Mrs. Cange-
losi are residing in Muskogee, Oklahoma,
while he is stationed at Camp Gruber.
Knox-Bolen
Miss Vesta Knox of Dodge City, Kansas,
and Lt. George O. Bolen, ’44, were mar-
ried on September 30. Lt. Bolen is now at
Lowry Field, Denver, Colorado.

of Patricia Ann Langford at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Langford, ’31,
on November 13. They reside at Newgulf,
Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. S. A. “Doc’” Mercer, ’32,
announce the birth of a son, S. A. Mercer,
Jr., on September 21. Mr. Mercer is with
the Humble Oil & Refg. Co., at Brenham,
Texas.
E. W. Colglazier, Jr., was born on
November 24 to Major and Mrs. Elmer
W. Colglazier, ’33. Major Colglazier is now
stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga., Gen. Sec.

Lt. and Mrs. Charles R. Pierce, ’35, are
the proud parents of a son, Douglas
Lovick Pierce, born October 14. At present
Lt. Pierce is at a combat engineers school
at Columbus, S. C.
A belated announcement has been re-
ceived telling of the birth of a daughter,
Lynn, to Sgt. and Mrs. Travis
Voelkel, ‘35, last April 22. While Sgt.
Voelkel is stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas,
Mrs. Voelkel, Travis, Jr., and little Carol
Lynn are making their in Brenham, Tex-

Lt. Col. and Mrs. Wallace R. Langston,
’35, are happy over the arrival of a daugh-
ter, Sunny Gale, on September 15th, 1944.
Lt. Col. Langston is in Belgium serving
as commanding officer of an A. A. A. Bn.
Announcement has been made of the
birth of a son, Ross Hugh Sherwood, to
Major and Mrs. R. S. Sherwood, ’36, in
Washington, D. C. They make their home
at 805 S. Pitt, Alexandria, Va.
Two future Aggies were added to the
list when twin sons were born to Capt. and
Mrs. J. H. Beene, ’37, on August 13. Mrs.
Beene and the two boys, named John Lloyd
and James Stephen, are making their home
in Comanche, Texas, while Capt. Beene is
on overseas duty.
Major and Mrs. Travis S. Marks, ’37,
proud of their daughter, Suzanne
Noel, who was born on October 10, in
Summerville, S. C., where Mrs. Marks
is living while Major Marks is located
somewhere in the Near East. ‘
Little Harry Michael Elmendorf was
born on November 15 to Lt. and Mrs.
Edward H. Elmendorf, ’38. Lt. Elmendorf
is on overseas duty, APO 4207, San Fran-
cisco.
Major and Mrs. Sidney L. Loveless
’38, are the proud parents of a son, Sid-
ney L. Loveless II, born October 22nd,
1944. Major Loveless is with the U. S.
forces in Italy and Mrs. Loveless, their
two year old daughter, Joan, and Sidney
II, are making their home in South Oak-
wood at College Station, Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Irvin, ’38, are the
proud parents of a son, Robert Allen, who
was born on November 4. They are living
at Brazoria, Texas.
A second daughter was born to Capt.
and Mrs. Clarence M. Thieme, ’39, on
November 18, Capt. Thieme is at Camp
Hood, Texas, at present, and Mrs. Thieme
and ‘children are making their home in
Midland, Texas.
Capt. Clarence R. Doyle, ’39, and Mrs.
Doyle became the parents of a new Aggie
on October 26. Capt. Doyle is stationed
at the Enid A. A. F., Enid, Okla.
Mighty proud of their young son, who
was born on September 26, are Major and
Mrs. Lynn B. Hughes, ’39. Major Hughes is
S.ation Veterinarian at Camp Lee,
Announcement has been made of the
birth of Pat C. Clutter, III, on July 2,
to Mr. and Mrs. Pat C. Clutter, Jr., 40.
Mr. Clutter was retired from the Army
last May, and they are residing at 201
Evans Ave., Bonham, Texas.
Capt. and Mrs. Bruce A. Davis, ’40, an-
nounce the arrival of a daughter, Belinda
Ann, on November 23. Capt. Davis is sta-
tioned at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland.
Lt. and Mrs. Benn A. Gleason, 40, are
the proud parents of a second daughter,
Merrijo, who was born on November 6
at Marlin, Texas. Mrs. Gleason and daugh-
ters are living in Lott, Texas, while Lt.
Gleason is on duty overseas.
A belated announcement has been re-
ceived teiling of the birth of a daughter,
Mila, on July 23, to Capt. and Mrs. Paul
T. Marion, ’40. Mrs. Marion and two
children are living at Calvert, Texas,
while Capt. Marion is on foreign duty.
T. J. Tinker, C. Sp. (A), ’40, and Mrs.
Tinker became the proud parents of little
Carolyn Ruth on October 25 at the Naval
Air Station Hospital San Diego, Calif.,
where Mr. Tinker is stationed.
William H. “Bill” Dwyer, III, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Dwyer, Jr., ’40,
2902 Virginia St., Houston, was born on
September 20.
Word has been received from Mrs.
Katherine Netting, 305 KE. Ashby, San
Antonio, wife of Lt. Col. Conrad J.
Netting, III, ’40, of the birth of their
son, Conrad J. Netting, IV, last July 16.
Co!. Netting has been missing in action
since June 10.
Mr. and Mrs. David T. Parks, 40, 2807
Sixth Street, Port Arthur, announce the
birth of their daughter, Kay Elaine Parks,
on December 16. Mr. Parks is Chemical
Engineer for Gulf Oil Corp., in that city.

birth of Robert Frank Kruse on Novem-
ber 10, to Capt. and Mrs. Robert O. Kru-

happy over the arrival of Linda Kay on
October 22.
A belated report has reached the Office
of the birth of a son last July 8 to Lt.
and Mrs. Bradley E. “Pete” Place, ‘42.
Mrs. Place and young son are making their
home at 3400 Fifth St., Port Arthur, while
Lt. Place is stationed in the Pacific.
Lt. and Mrs. Virgil N. Cordero, Jr., ’42,
announce the birth of Virgil N. Cordero,
III, on October 13. Lt. Cordero is on
duty at APO 25, San Francisco, and Mrs.
Cordero is making her home in Bryan,
Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar D. Ilschner, ’42,
304 S. Sterling, Bryan, Texas, announce
the birth of a daughter on November 5.

Lt. and Mrs. John M. Hefley, Jr., ’42,
became the proud parents of a son, Mar-
tin Wayon Hefley, on August 5. Lt. Hef-
ley is stationed at Camp Wolters, Texas.
News has been received of the birth of a
son, Richard William, on August 31 to
son, ’44, on September 9. They are making
their home in Shreveport, La., while Lt.
Williamson is stationed at Barksdale Field.

Miss Nancy McFadden, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. D. H. McFadden, Dallas, became
the bride of A/C John T. Knox, ’45, on
October 21. The couple are living at
Frederick, Oklahoma, where Cadet Knox
is stationed.

Miss Davy Pena, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. David R. Pena, Tyler, and Lt. Donald
D. Cherry, ’45, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
Cherry of Slaton, were married on Nov.
4. Lt. Cherry is stationed at Camp Bowie,

Miss Jo Ann Pitts was married on Oct.,
8 to Cpl. Harvey J. Chelf, ’46, in Clovis,
New Mexico. Cpl. Chelf is now stationed
a Herrington, Kansas.

Edward E. Crain, ’78
Edward E. Crain, ’78, age 83, died at
his home in Longview, Texas, on Decem-
ber 17, after a long illness. He is survived
by his wife; two sons; five grandchildren :
and two great-grandchildren. After leaving
A. & M., where he was one of the first
students, Mr. Crain went to Longview,
where he was first employed in a dry
goods store, then operated a grocery store,
and later a drugstore, retiring from bus-
iness about twenty years ago. He was a
lifelong Methodist, a Mason, and a

Louis B. Webster, 79
Louis B. Webster, ’79. 3002 Wheless
St., Shreveport, La., died on September
17, 1943, according to word from his
daughter, Mrs. H. H. Dugan.
Dr. Judson L. Taylor, ’00
Dr. Judson L. Taylor, ’00, prominent
physician of Houston, died on November
28 in that city of a heart attack. He
had been recently appointed as a mem-
ber of the Board of Regents of the Univers
sity of Texas. He attended Texas A. & M
in 1896-97 and received his medical edu-
cation in Texas University.

News has been received of the death
of Mr. Emil L. Kloss, ’02, 811 Fulton Ave,
San Antonio, on October 29, after an
illness of about “five months.

Lewin Plunkett, ’24, age 41,
Mrs. Lewin Plunkett, Dallas,
December 15 at his home at

Quanah. A graduate in Dairy Husbandry
he moved to Quanah about ten years ago,
where he owned and operated a creamery.
Capt. Henry V. Baushausen, ’35
Capt. Henry V. Baushausen, ’35, has
been killed in action in France.

Baushausen, Houston; and his wife and
small daughter, 509 W. Walker St., Mar-
lin, Texas. Capt. Baushausen, who had
been with the 90th Infantry Division, the
Third Army, had recently been awarded
the Silver Star for gallantry in action.

Lt. Ray ‘E.. Dickson, -Jr., .’37," Spur,
was killed in action on November 8, 1944.
He was with the Field Artillery attached
to the 80th Infantry Division on Patton’s
Third Army in France. He is survived by
his wife, Mrs. R. E. Dickson, Jr., of
Spur; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E.
Dickson, Sr., ’12, of Spur; and a daugh-
ter, Marcia, 18 months of age.
Lt. Dickson was born at the Texas
Agricultural Experiment Station at Spur
and attended A. M. during the years
of 1934-37. He entered the Army in
November, .1941, and was commissioned
at Ft. Sill in March, 1943. Mrs. Dickson
is the former Miss Gertrude Hill of Eagle
Pass. Ray’s hobbies were literature and
art. He has had several articles published
in magazines, the most recent appearing
in the December issue of ‘The Progres-
sive Farmer”.
Capt. Joe Routt, ’38
Capt. Joe Routt, ’38, comander of an
infantry company, was killed in action in
Europe on December 10. He was the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Chip Routt of Chapel
Hill. His widow, the former Marilyn
Maddox of Houston, and their two small
daughters have - been living in Brenham.
Before going into service, Capt. Routt
was a sales representative in Houston
of the Longhorn Portland Cement Co. He
is. also survived by two brothers, Lt. Chipp
Routt, ’41, now at iize Bryan Army Air
Field, and Milton Routt, now at West
Point.
Rated as one of the all-time football
greats of the southwest, Routt was an
All-America guard in 1936 and 1937.
Lt. Col. Herbert Mills, ’39
Lt. Col. Herbert Mills, ‘39, head of a
tank unit in Europe, has been killed in an
assault upon the Siegfried line. He was
the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Mills of
Alpine, Texas. Col. Mills Feseivad a degree
in Agriculture, and while at A. & M. was
an outstanding livestock student and well-
known as a sheep judge.
Willis A. Teller, 39
Capt. Willis A. Teller, ’39, was killed
in a plane crash near Tucumcari, New
Mexico, on September 27. At the time
of his death he was an instructor at
Kirtland Field, Albuquerque, N. M. He
is survived by his wife and a 5-months-old
son. Capt. Teller attended A. & M. from
1935-39. receiving a B. S. degree in Petro-
leum Engineering.
Capt. Abraham S. Kahn, ’41
Capt.
Capt. Abraham §S. Kahn, 41, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Simon Kahn, 1313 Cincin-
nati, El Paso, was killed in action on
September 13 in Belgium, while leading
his company on an attack against the
enemy. He had been awarded the Silver
Star and the Purple Heart. Capt. Kahn at-
tended A. M. from ’37,-’41, receiving
a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Doris Kahn, 6906 Van Etten,
Houston 4; a son whom he had never
seen; one sister; and two brothers.
Lt. Leo T. Sharum, Jr., ’41
Lt. Leo T. Sharum, Jr., ’41, was killed
in action over Berlin, Germany, on
March 6, according to his father, Mr. Leo
T. Sharum, Sr., 909 S. 20th St., Fort
Smith, Arkansas. Lt. Sharum attended
A. & M. from ’37-’38, taking Science.
Lt. William C. Swain, ’42
Word has been received from Miss
Elizabeth Swain, 300 Riverside Drive, New
York 25, New York, that her brother, Lt.
William C. Swain, ’42, was killed in an
airplane crash at Natal, Brazil, last April
27. Lt. Swain attended A. M. from
’38-’42, receiving a B.S. degree in Chemical
Engineering.
Lt. James Edward Inglehart, ’42
Lt. James Inglehart, ’42, pilot on a
large bomber, was killed in action in the
Pacific theater on November 30. Lt. In-
glehart, only child of Mr. and Mrs. J. 5H.
Inglehart, 1245 E. Allen, Fort Worth,
attended A. & M. from .’38-’42, and re-
| ceived his B.S. degree in Mechanical En-
| gineering.

Lit. Stephen C. Kaffer, 43, YS killed
in action in Germany on November 20.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen
L. Kaffer, 3229 Aurora, El Paso. He re-

D-Day. One of his last assignments was
the construction of a bridge over the
Seine River during the American advance

Lt. George T. Schleier, ’43, son of Mr.
and Mrs. E. E. Schleier, Sr., 108 Delmar,
Houston 11, was killed in action on Novem-
ber 18 in France, where he was serving
with the 7th Army. Lt. Schleier attended
A. & M. from 1939-43, taking Liberal
Arts, and received his B.A. degree in
’43.
Lt. Thomas C. Brown, ‘44
Lt. Thomas C. Brown, ‘44, son of Mr,
and Mrs. Mitchell H. Brown, ’16, Rock-
wall, Texas, was killed in action in Ger-
many on November 20. He was an honor
student at A. & M. when he entered the
service and was commissioned at the In-
fantry School, Ft. Benning, Ga. He had
returned to his regiment only a few days
before his death from a hospital in Eug-
land where he was sent after being wound-
ed at Brest. Besides his parents, Lt. Brown
is survived by two brothers, Lt. Mitchell
H. Brown, Jr., ’42, now in the Canal
Zone, and George F. Brown, Rockwall.
Lt. Richard E. Alston, ’44
Lt. Richard E. Alston, ’44, son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. W. Alston, 1609 Blair St.,
Little Rock, Ark. was killed in action
in France on November 25, while serving
with the 80th Infantry Division. Lt. Als-
ton was inducted into the service in 1943
and sent overseas in June, 1944. Besides
his parents, he is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Dorothy Peabody Alston, Little Rock,
Ark.
S/Sgt. Garrett C. Parnell, ’44
S/Sgt. Garrett C. Parnell, ’44, was
killed in action in England on November
18. The son of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Par-
nell, Higgins, Texas, Sgt. Parnell entered
service in 1943, and had been stationed
in England and Ireland since June, 1944.
He was a gunner on 2 B-24 Liberator at-
tached to the Eighth Air Force, and wore
the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clus-
ters. Besides his parents, Sgt. Parnell is
survived by two brothers and two sisters.
Lt. Robert M. Hyde, ’45
Lt. Robert M. Hyde, ’45, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles H. Hyde of Higgins, Tex-
as, died in a German prison on August
11. He had been shot down on July 16
while on his sixteenth mission from a
Fifteenth Air Force base in Italy. Lt.
Hyde left A. & M. in 1942 to enlist in
the Air Corps and received his commission
and wings at Eagle Pass. Besides his pa-
rents, Lt. Hyde is survived by a grand-

The first news from LT. JOHN B. Mec-
CLUSKEY, ’36, for a period of two years
came through to his mother Mrs. J. B.
McCluskey of Anderson, Texas, a short
time ago. Lt. McCluskey is a veteran of
Corregidor and he reported having received
eight lettres from his mother that were
one year old when he receiveld them. He
requested some snapshots of the family
and stated he was in good health.

been awarded the Distinguished Flying
Cross “for extraordinary achievement in
aerial flight as a pilot of a B-24 type
aircraft.” .Besides the Distinguished Fly-
ing Cross, Col. Large also holds the Air
Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the
War Department Unit Citation Badge, the
American Defense Ribbon, and the African-
Middle Eastern-European theatre ribbon
with one Bronze Battle Star.
