PARADE |
The recent death of Charles A.
Thanheisier, ’01, Houston, re-
moved from the A. & M. family
one of the sincerest friends the
College ever possessed. He was
perhaps best known for his love
of athletics but his regard en-
compassed all other features of
his Alma Mater. In the field of
athletics, however, he showed most
clearly his love for A. & M.)
No man rejoiced so deeply over
victory or so sincerely regretted
defeat. Mr. Thanheiser felt that
same way about the entire A. &
M. College and about his fellow
A. & M. men. He showed that
feeling hundreds of times by his
deeds and his counsel. He was a
great man whose like will not be
found and whose passing leaves an
unfilled void.
Once Bit, Twice Shy
No spring football will be held
at Kyle Field this year because
Homer Norton and his aides are
not interested in training boys for
somebody else’s team. Last spring
fortv-four lads went through a
month's tough work and when
September rolled around only |
nine of them were on hand. A
score of those missing showed up
on other conference teams where
they had transferred because they
were in the Naval Reserve. This
year the Aggies will wait until late
summer to have their early prac-
tice. Incidentally, not over three
or four of the lads on last fall's
runner-up team are expected to
be back this fall. Aggie athletic
authorities are still hoping the
army will relax its rules to allow
its student reserves to participate
as the Navy does. There seems
little justification for the present
rule when West Point permits its
students to engage in all forms of
intercollegiate athletics.
1944 Schedule
Texas Tech at San Antonio,
Oklahoma at Norman, L. S. U. at
Baton Rouge and possibly Miami
Univ. at Miami, Fla., will be on
the Cadet football calendar this
fall, in addition to the usual tilts
with all conference opponents. If
played, the Miami game would be
a post season affair. That invita-
tion is an evidence of the friends
the Aggies made in the Orange
Bowl New Years Lay,
