Mr. and Mrs. Clarence H. Crawford,
’23, announce the birth of a son, Kenneth
Clarence Crawford, born May 13, at Wins-
low, Arizona. Mr. Crawford is associated
with the A. T. & S. F. Ry. there, and

Capt. and Mrs. Paul A. Wofford, ’39,
want their friends to know about their new
daughter, Susan Earle, born Aug. 24. Capt.
Wofford is stationed at Camp Wheeler, Ga.
Capt. and Mrs. Pete W. Jacoby, ’40, an-
nounce the birth of Pete William, Jr., on
Nov. 22. Capt. Jacoby is with the 3538th

Mr. and Mrs. T. M. “Tommy” Nelson,
’41, announce the birth of their daugh-
ter, Sandra Gail, on Dec. 14, 1943. The
Nelsons live at 602 N. 31st St., Waco.
Lt. Lee O. Weathersbee, ’41, reports
the birth of his son, Lee Oland Weathers-
bee, Jr., on Oct. 26 in Del Rio, Texas. The
baby’s grandfather is H. M. Cely, ’09,
Del Rio. Lt. Weathersbee is somewhere in

Capt. Alton E. White, ’42, writes that
he is anxious to get back to see his new
daughter, born April 21 and named Neva
Jean. He has been overseas 15 months at
APO 520, % Postmaster, New York City.
Lt. and Mrs. James A. Roming, °42,
are the proud parents of a daughter, born
in June. Her name is Judy Ann, and she
was six weeks old when her father went
overseas. His address is APO 464, % Post-
master, New York. Mrs. Roming and Judy
Ann are living at 61 Love St., San
Angelo, Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. William H. Black, °’39,
announce the birth of W. H. Blick, Jr,
Mr. Black is Chief Engineer for Anaconda
Copper Co.. Clifton, Arizona.
Lt. and Mrs. O. Cantini, ’40, advised us
that Francis O. Jr., was born to them on
November 25, at Galveston, Texas. Lt.

Miss Evelyn Wright and Cpl. J. W.

Temple, Texas. He is stationed at Tinker
Field, Oklahoma City, where the couple
plan to reside.
Bralley-Drake
The engagement and approaching mar-
riage of Miss Betty Bralley, Dallas, to
Cadet Paschal O. Drake, Jr., ’45, has been
announced by Mrs. Jewel Rattan-Bralley,
mother of the bride-to-be. Cadet Drake is
in training in the naval air corps and is
stationed at Corpus Christi.

E. Mudd, ’43, were married December 6.
At present they are stationed at Camp
Reyrolds, Greenville, Pa.
SILVER TAPS
Hicks E. Thompson, ’09
Hicks E. Thompson, ’09, age 57, widely-
known Texas oil man, died at Dallas, in
December from a heart stroke. At the
time of his death he was Assistant Super-
intendent of the Right of Way and Claims
Department of the Magnolia Petroleum
Company. He had been with that company
since 1918. Burial was at Kilgore where he
was born. Survivors include his wife, a
daughter, two sisters, a brother and two
grandchildren.
Col H. A. Wear, ’14
Col. H. A. Wear, ’14, died at his home
in Gainesville, Fla., on December 8, fol-
lowing a lingering illness. Befire becoming
ill he was stationed at Camp Blanding,
Fla., as Finance Officer. He is the son
of Mrs. J. Wear, of Rogers, Texas,

noon at the Petroleum Club, 4th

club’s meetings.
President Gaines has been an ac-
tive member of the club for many
years. He practices law and has
offices in the South Texas Bank
Building. He is also a member of
the Board of Directors of the As-
sociation of Former Students.
He is the father of Lt. Carroll
M. Gaines, ’43, located at Bates
Field, Mobile, Alabama.
An interesting item in connection
with the Alamo Club officers is
that the Club has had only two
treasurers during the past 15
years, Captain W. M. Howerton,
27, and the second, Chris Strom-
berger who has been annually re-
elected since Howerton went into
military service. The Club’s treas-
ury is in excellent condition.

W. Pickett Stephenson, ’32, age 32, a
native of Floresville, Texas, died at the
home of his brother, George W. Stephen-
son, ’28, in Corpus Christi on December 1.
Burial was at Floresville. He was with the
Air Reduction Company, at Corpus Christi,
at the time of his death. He was also a
brother of Clayton Stephenson, ’33. In
addition to his brothers he is survived by
his wife, and his father, W. O. Stephenson,
of Edinburg. Both of his brothers live at
Corpus Christi.
1st. Lt. Robert S. Roddy, ’41
Ist. Lt. Robert S. Roddy, ’41, was killed
last May 29 in an American Flying Fortress
raid on St. Nazaire, France. He was pilot
of the fortress and had previously been
listed as missing in action. He has been
posthumously awarded the Purple Heart
medal. Lt. Roddy was the son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. S. Roddy, of Bells, Texas, and is
Aso survived by his widow, formerly of
ells.
Captain Daniel R. Chamberlain, ’41
Captain Daniel R. Chamberlain, 41, son
of Mrs. James Chamberlain, of McMahan,
Texas, was killed in Hawaii on January
"a, 1093 He attended A. & M. from
1938-1940, majoring in Petroleum Engineer-
ing. No details of his death have been
received.
Sgt. James W. Mabry, Jr., ’43
Sgt. James W. Mabry, Jr., ’43, aerial
gunner of a Flying Fortress based in
England, was reported killed in action
by the War Department. No details were
given. Sgt. Mabry had been in the ser-
vice for about 18 months and went over-
seas last August. He attended A. & M.
from 1939-1941, majoring in Agriculture.
Sgt. Mabry is survived by his father, Mr.
James Mabry, two brothers, Mack and
Bobbie Mabry, and two sisters, Mrs. W. R.
Suda and Miss Leona Mabry, and his
mother, Mrs. Ora Mabry, who lives in
Bryan. Before entering the service he was
employed as a bookkeeper at the City
National Bank, Bryan.
Murray Holland, ’43
Murray Holland, ’43, of George West,
Texas, was killed in action in the Euro-
pean theatre on November 30, according
to word received at this office. He attended
A. & M. from 1939-1941, studying agri-
culture.
Lt. Donald W. McIntyre, ’43
; Lt. Donald W. McIntyre, ’43, died of
injuries received in a truck wreck at
Camp Maxey, Texas, on Dec. 17. He had
graduated from OCS at Fort Sill on the
first of November and had just been trans-
ferred to Camp Maxey. Lt. McIntyre was
married a few weeks before his death to
Miss Nancy Bradford, of Dallas. Besides
his widow he is survived by his parents

J. B. PUMPHREY, prominent farmer
and ranchman who lives at Old Glory in
Stonewall County, Texas, has been elected
a member of the Board of Directors by the
Farm Credit Administration of Houston.
He was chosen for a three-year term on the
Board in an election held by the 36 produc-
tion credit associations in Texas. Member-
ship on the Board also makes him a Direc-
tor of the Federal Land Bank, the Federal
Intermediate Credit Bank, the Production
Credit Corporation, and the Houston Bank
for Cooperatives, the several divisions of
the Farm Credit Administration of Hous-
ton. Mr. Pumphrey succeeds MAJOR SAM
H. BURCHARD, ’12, Gonzales, now in the
U. S. Army. Another member of the
Farm Credit Board is DEAN E. J. KYLE,
'99, of the A. & M. College. Mr. Pum-
phrey attended A. & M. from 1911 through

Bombardment Gp., is on his way back to
the Pacific after a visit to his wife, son
and daughter in Florida, and his mother,
Mrs. E. Schriever, in San Antonio. In the
Southwest Pacific almost since the start
of the war, he led the first bombing mis-
sion over New Guinea. With little to say
of his experiences, he does relate that he
had the pleasure of taking off from the
former Jap air field at Lae just before
