THE TEXAS AGGIE MONDAY, MARCH 8, 1943 Fage 4— SPORTS PARADE Once Over Lightly ... Manning Smith’s Aggie basket-4 pall team did not come even close to winning the championship but gave the customers the best run for their money they have had in many years so far as basketball is concerned. That final game in Aus- tin was a rip-snorting affair. Nosed out by two points, the cadets still gave an excellent account of them- selves. - - - Bill Henderson, who has already made more varsity athletic letters than any other Aggie ath- lete in history will try for his 11th and 12th this spring. He is almost a cinch in track and may pick up an extra letter in swimming. - - - Spring football is over and the Aggies looked better than was ex- pected. Standouts were Barney Welch and Otto Payne in the back- field. Both lettered last fall. - - - 1st. Lts. John Kimbrough and Jim Thomason and 2nd. Lt. Derace Mos- er, great Aggie footballers of the past few years, are all taking flight training in the Army Air Forces. Ernie Pannell, all confer- ence tackle in 1939-40 has been commissioned an ensign in the Navy. Marshall Robnett, all-Amer- ican guard in 1940 is on duty at the new Bryan Air Field and slat- ed soon for pilot training and OCS. - - - Baseball and track coming up. Diamond prospects are good—track poor. - - - College athletics are hanging on the ropes, what with travel difficulties and even more binding, loss of personnel that is approaching a complete black-out.
