The re- quirements for a letter are high at A. & M., calling for playing in 100 minutes or more of conference time. k kk Avila, Childers, Haile, Killian and Thompson were awarded letters in Cross-Country. They were confer- ence winners this year. * kk For the fifth time in the past ten years of Dana Bible’s reign as Ag- gie Head Coach the Southwestern Conference title flag waves over Kyle Field. In that past ten years no other conference eleven has won the title more than twice and that’s about as good a record as even the most am- bitious football follower could wish. kx sk 3k Pittsburg University has accepted the invitation to play Leland Stan- ford at the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena. For a while it was hoped ‘that the Aggies would get the invi- tation in case they won in the South- west. A post-season game between "Georgia or Georgia Tech, whichever wins the Southern Title would be at- tractive and would likely be played either at Atlanta, Dallas or Houston. Centenary has also challenged these Southern winners. There is no chance of the Aggies playing Centenary. * kk Joel Hunt leads the conference scores with a total of 128 points with Redman Hume’ of S. M. U, second with 116 points. kk 3k The first two conférence events of the year resulted in championships for the Aggies, football and cross- country. % sk 3k The best of sportsmanship was evi- dent in the A. & M.-Texas game. After it was over the Longhorn play- ers were the first to congratulate Hunt and his Aggie team-mates. It is said that Captain “Ox” Higgins of Texas said that Hunt was the great- est football player he had ever played against. Hi % The aerial attack of this year’s eleven was about the best ever seen in the conference. It was not used alone but was mixed in with the run- ‘ning and plunging attack in a way that made it particularly devastating. Bible and Bassett took the weapon that critics have said the Aggies would never perfect and won a title with it. Graduation will play havoc with “Chuck” Bassett’s line this year. Sikes, Deffebach, Lister, Sprott, Fi- gari, Holmes, Wylie and Rektorik, letter men will go along with Mosher, strong reserve tackle. Petty and Bartlett will be the only letter men available next year but Ewell at tackle and Richter at guard are re- serves this year who can step into places and hold them down and the same is true of Cody, an end, Brown a center, ete. Higgins? Lam——— . ee ————————————————— ee ——— Only Hunt is lost from the back- field. Burgess, Dorsey, Conover, Al- sabrook, Varnell, Mills, Davis, Jeffer- ies, Ish and Jefferies will return. From Roswell Higginbotham’s squad comes several backs of promise among them being Phillips of McKinney, Clark of Marshall, Zarafonetis of Breckenridge, Delery of Houston and several others. * kk “Chuck” Bassett will start basket- ball immediately after Thanksgiving. He will have four letter-men as a nu- cleus. Captain Sikes, Davis, Petty and Webster. A dozen others will be out for the other places. kk sk 3k The Southwest in general and the Aggies in particular have been re- ceiving more national publicity this year than ever before. Grantland Rice recently mentioned Hunt in his column in glowing terms and admit- |g ted that writers like himself had no opportunity to know the ability of players who were not on the big teams of the East and North. * kk Texas made a record in their vie- tory over Kansas Aggies when they scored 45 points on three first downs. Taking advantage of Aggie fumbles and intercepting many passes did the trick. %* kk Outside teams have fared poorly in the Southwest this fall. Missouri, Vanderbilt were all defeat- ed decisively. * kk Some wag remarked that the most usual passing lineup in the A. & M.- S. M. U. game was from Mann to Hunt. % kk A. B. “Bugs” Morris’ team at Abi- lene Christian College at Abilene re- cently won their biggest game of the year against Texas Tech and “Old Folks” Jim Bradford’s Burleson Eleven beat Wesley in their annual battle. Both the coaches were Aggie football players of a few years back. * ok * Centenary College of Shreveport has “Done wrong by our Conference teams” this fall, winning from Rice, Baylor, T. C. U. and the Mustangs. They are among the few undefeated and united elevens in the country. % 3k Xk By next year there will be an in- creased use of the Backward pass if the rule is not modified. It has taken teams about a year to learn all that might be done with it. The S. M. U. team is getting so they toss it around din a style worthy of a basketball game and the worst part is that they can do it consistently. NEW YORK SUN PUTS SPROTT ON ALL-AMERICAN A. C, Sprott, big tackle from Liv- ingston, has been honored by being selected as an alternate tackle on the New York Sun’s All-American Eleven. The honor carries with it an award of a gold medal that is one of the most coveted awards of the football world. The selection of Sprott will meet with general approval thru the Southwest and his many friends are congratulating him upon this honor. CUNNINGHAM, '10 BACK AFTER LONG NORTEERN STAY F.. H. Cunningham, ’10, recently returned to Texas from the North where he has lived since graduation, writes that he has not been able to gt over for a single game yet this year. He may be able to attend the Thanksgiving Day tilt but that is un- certain. Cunningham has not seen a game since graduation but is still one of the hottest fans you can imagine. He is now living in San Antonio at 108 Navarro St., and is connected with the Otis Elevator Company. The 1910 Longhorn says that he was a great military expert when in A. & M. His favorite command being “Do as I do!! March!!” We can’t vouch for that but Cunningham says he is very anx- jous to get over to the College for a visit and see the many changes that have been made since he was Captain and Quartermaster of the Regimental Cadet Corps.
