STORY OF TEXAS GREATNESS IS TOLD BY CHURCH San Jacinto Day Program Replete With Interest. Tom Hoffer is Electer President Panther, City Aggies. Brother, have you reviewed Texas history since you were a kid? Have you thought of the Alamo or Goliad or recalled the deeds of Fannin, Crockett, Lamar, Sam Houston and others in the last fifteen years? Well, you should have been in Fort Worth in the hall of the Longhorns at the Texas Hotel on the evening of April 21, 1924. Marion S (Parson) Church retold the story and recounted the deeds in such a way as to make all of us “rare back” and feel a just pride in being Texans. Parson Church had not entirely re- covered from his operation for ap- pendicitis, but he had promised to meet with the Fort Worth Club and he was there. The Fort Worth bunch has come to think that a program is not a program unless Church is the principal speaker. And he keeps on spoiling us by making sacrifices and coming when we call on him. If Marion Church can write out the speech which he delivered here we are going to see that it is published in The Aggie, for the benefit of all of us. A story never was more beauti- fully and forcibly told, and he ended up by bringing up right down to the present and A. and M., and the needs of the old school (more adequate ap- propriations) more buildings, more equipment, and MORE SUPPORT FROM THE ALUMNI AND THE FORMER STUDENTS. The following officers were elected by the Fort Worth A. and M. Club for the coming year: T. B. Hoffer, president; C. H. Fleming, vice-presi- dent, and C. N. Williamson, secretary. Our San Jacinto day reunion proved to be an occasion of real interest to all who attended. In order to better assure ourselves of a good attend- ance and to more accurately deter- mine the number to prepare for, .we sold men tickets in advance. We have found this the most satisfactory means of getting the fellows together. To our San Jacinto Day program we sold tickets to the following men: C. D. Williamson, Paul Powell, L. E. Thorne, G. R. Dunning, E. R. Tuerpe, Alf Luckett, J. W. Ridgway, L. A. Wayman, Dayton Moses Jr. V. W. Miller, W. O. Cook, M. Harvin, R. J. Rhome, Harry Walton, A. E. Keith, L. W. Moore, M.J. Miller, Buck, Smith, E. P. Haltom, Paul Lauben- heim, Chas. Richenstine, E. P. Van- Zandt, Jake Block, R. G. Tabor, H. B. Moses, C. H. Golden and C. H. Flem- ing. Visitors and guest of the club were Marion Church, James M. . Forsyth, (the original “Cop”), Mrs Belle Brown president of the local A. and M. Mothers’ Club. The entertainment of the evening consisted of a reading by Miss Delma Dean of Fort Worth and music fur- nished by T. C. U. quartet. ————l———————— A hurried note from R. J. (Dutch) Ehlert tells us he is getting along nicely and is well pleased with his work. He sends in his check cover- ing payment of the first installment of his note. He is at Irving, Texas. SAN ANTONIO A. & M. CLUB. (By W. A. Orth) “Runt” Hanson—W. K. Hanson, landscape architect—and the writer rode the flivver down to Gonzales Tuesday and had a fine evening with the Gonzales Club. A revival, lack- ing only the real eloquence of Par- son Church, followed a splendid din- ner and the Association files are the richer by about $800 worth of notes with more coming. Hartwell Kin- nard, appointed reporter, will make a complete write-up of the meeting. A committee from the local club is making arrangements to entertain graduates of the several high and prep schools with a barbecue at Judge Wurzbach’s country place. At that meeting we hope to line up some good fish for next year. Tyree Bell has finished his road job in the valley and, in spite of Senate investigations, is thinking of enter- ing the land business since those folks are furnished, according to the noted showman, with a “prospect” avery minute. Hon. L. J. Hart, president of the board of directors, spoke before the club at the last luncheon, outlining and reveiwing their building policy. They have big plans and this Asso- ciation should be the instrument for assisting them in realizing those am- bitions. P. H. Moore, ex ’24, now in the employ of the National Printing and Stationery Co. here, is one of the latest additions to our local roster. Raymond Dugosh, another ’24 man, and one of the S. A. sheiks, also draws his check from the above com- pany and specializes in adding ma- chines. Fiesta activities prevented original plans for a real big party on April 21st being carried out, but a good- sized crowd assembled for a noon- day meeting and luncheon at the Gun- ter on that date and left with a more earnest desire to further the interests of A. & M. after hearing splendid talks by Judge W. A. Wurzbach, ’88, Gus Niggli, ’90, and J. H. Briggs, ’04. R. H. Ramsey, 21, Goliad; T. C. Davis, '23, College Station; Hartwell Kinnard, ’20, Gonzales; L. A. Heder, ’16, Medina; .J. H. McDaniel, ’25, Floresville. Don Lee, member of Dallas, Hous- ton, San Antonio and other clubs popped in just to say “Howdy” and then right out to catch a train. The club was glad to have the fol- lowing out-of-town men present for this meeting: Dave Bruton, ’15, is now in the Magic Valley selling ice machines to the vegetable shippers but spent Fiesta week in San Antonio buying a pair of shoes. He hadn’t selected them the last time we saw him. Dave was a snappy second baseman on the 1913 team but did not return after the strike. tl — ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED. i i Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Baker, of Bry- an, announce the approaching mar- riage of their daughter, Miss Anna Lee Baker to Homer Elbert Womack on May 20th. The wedding will be solemnized at the First Christian Church at Bryan at 8 o’clock. Womack graduated last year in dairy husbandry.
