MARKETING PROBLEM
OF FARMERS SOLVED
Cotton Marketing Head Outlines
Problems of Farming to
Seminar.
The Texas Farm Bureau Federation
has set up the machinery to enable
the farmer to work out his problems
of marketing and has accomplished
much in solving his problem by pool-
ing a great lot of cotton according
to grades, advancing him enough to
enable him to delay sale, warehouse
it at minimum cost, and offering it
direct to the consumer as the demand
is met, which in effect has resulted
in ordinary marketing, put the law of
supply and demand into effect ard
eliminated the speculator. This was
the statement of John T. Orr of Dal-
las, president of the Texas Farm Bu-
reau Cotton Association in an address
to the Social Science Seminar of the
College Monday evening.
Mr. Orr covered the entire field of
the farmer’s problem in his address
declaring that his problems were of
three kinds, those of production, of
relation to other enterprises, and of
marketing. In the matter of pr due-
tion which included such prob'ems as
maintenance of soil fertility, diversi-
fication, livestock, drainage distribu-
tion of labor, improved seed, etec., ne
said the farmer must depend mostly
upon his own intelligence and dili-
gence to succeed, but in his prob-
lems of relation with other industrics
and marketing he must cooperace
with others and have the assisiance
of governmental agencies.
Little had been done in the matter
of cooperation until the establishment
of the Texas Farm Bureau Federa-
tion, he said, and while it has not
entirely solved the problems which
it is designed to correct it has made
wonderful progress in view of the
needs and by its operation has proved
the merit of such an agency. The
first great difficulty of cooperative
or orderly marketing he said was fin-
ances and added that the Association’
of which he is head has overcome 1t
entirely by procuring all the tunds

Mr. Duncan Will Be
Host To Aggie Squad
And Beaumont Team
W. A. Duncan, supervisor of sub-
sisterce will be host to the varsity
football team, athletic staff, council,
vell leaders, and the Beaumont High
School football squad in the Mess
Hall tomorrow evening at 6:15.
The Beaumont team will arrive on
the Campus tomorrow at nocen on
their way to Waco where they will
enter the semifinals in the Inter-
scholastic League with the Waco High
School. They will take a workout
on Kyle field in the afternoon, attend
the luncheon with the Aggie varsity
team and officials in the evening and
join the Beaumont special train to
Waco about midnight. This was an-
nounced yesterday by D. X. Bible,
athletic director.
Abundance of Duncan food and Ag-
gieland music as accompaniment is
the program announced for the meet-
ing. :

WIFE OF FORMER A. & M.
TEACHER KILLS HERSELF
AND CHILDREN IN UTAH
News was received here yesterday
that Mrs. C. F. Sparkman, whose
husband was formerly an associate
professor of modern languages in
this institution killed her two young
children and herself in her home at
Salt Lake City Monday night. She
administered chloroform to the child-
ren, age 4 and 6 and then closing
the room and locking herself in open-
ed the gas jet and brought death upon
herself.
All were dead when Professor
Sparkman found them. He is now a
professor in the University of Utah.
“The Silent Accuser”
Picture for Tonight
The famous police dog Strongheart,
is featured in “The Silent Accuser,”
the picture which will be shown in
the Assembly Hall tonight, beginn-
ing at 6:45 o'clock. There will be a
good comedy and music by Aggie-
land.
MANUFACTURING MEN
WILL SPEAK TONIGHT
Officials of Manufacturers’ Associa-
tion Will Speak at Engineering
Conference.
College people will have the oppor-
tunity of hearing two of the lead-
ing men in the manufacturing indus-
try of Texas speak this evening at
the meeting of the Engineering Tea-
chers’ Conference which will be held
in the annex of the Mess Hall. C. L.
Poole, president of the Texas State
Manufacturing Association and also
president of the Poole Manufacturing
Company of Sherman and G. M. Kne-
bel, of San Antonio, vice president
and general manager of the Associa-
tion will address the meeting. Mr.
Poole will talk on some phases of
scientific management and Mr. Kne-
bel is expected to give some results
of a census of the manufacturing in-
dustry which he has made recently.
Preceding the talks of these dis-
tinguished visitors will be a short dis-
cussion by Dean C. H. Winkler on
the subject of teaching pertinent to
some problems of the College.
Dean F. C. Bolton is anxious that
a large group of the College people
take this opportunity of making the
acquaintance of these members of
our Texas industrial citizenship.
The dinner will be served in the
annex of the Mess Hall at 6:30 this
afternoon instead of 7:30 as announ-
ced yesterday. Reservations should
be phoned to the office of Dean Bol-
ton before 9 o’clock this morning,
though it may be possible to take
some reservations later. Everyone
interested is invited to attend.
The visitors will speak to the stu-
dents this afternoon.

MEET THIS EVENING
There will be a meeting of the Ag-
ronomy Society in the Agronomy Li-
brary at 7:00 o’clock this evening. All
students interested in Agronomy the
