The Daily Bulletin Vol. VII College Station, Texas, Sunday, April 13, 1924, No. 161 PLANS GOMPLETE FOR! OKLAHOMA DEBATE, Campus and Bryan | People Are In- vited to Attend. Time Is 8 O’clock. Campus residents, students, and friends of the college in Bryan and elsewhere are invited to hear the debate at the new Assembly Hall, tomorrdéw night between the A. & M. College of Texas and the A. & M. College of Oklahoma. The chairman cf the evening, Dr. F. A. Buechel, will call the assembly -to order at 8 o'clock. The proposition is “That the United States should join the League of Nations,” the visitors | speaking for the affirmative, the | Texas A. & M. speakers representing | the negative. The Oklahoma speak- ers are George Benson and Jchn H. Murray. The Texas speakers are G. D. Holland of the senior class and S. L. Fitzhugh of the sophomore class. The Oklahoma debaters, who are expected to arrive on the 3:06 train tomorrow afternoon, will be accompanied by their debate coach, Professor Harry H. Anderson. As critic-judge the debate coaches «f the two institutions have selected the chairman of the Department of | Public Speaking at the University of | Texas, Professor Ellwood Griscom, | Jr., who will make the decision and | afterwards, in a private conference with the speakers and their coaches,’ give a constructive criticism of the | debate. The speakers will be allovied 15 minutes each for their constructive speeches and 5 minutes each for their speeches in rebuttal. The rebuttal will be opened by Mr. Hol- land of Texas A. & M., speaking for the negative, and will be closed by one of the Oklahoma speakers. From College Station the Oklahoma team will go to Georgetown, Texas, | for a debate on Tuesday night with Southwestern University. a ys =9WGpdkpppgdbh A. H. Leidigh, agronomist of the Exreriment Station, will address the Science Seminar tomorrow evening at 8:00 o’clock in the lecture room of the Physics building. DOWNS, Jr,, — — i The Tidal institute of Liverpool has devised a new mathematical method of predicting the amount of tides. DR J.C. GILLIN TO SPEAK THIS MORNING Professor of Sociology at University of Wisconsin and Noted Sociolo- gist; Group Services Regular Dr. J. C. Gillin, professor of sociol- ogy of the University of Wisconsin, and classed as the best known Sociol- ogist in the country, will speak at the regular convocation in Guion hall this morning at 10:50 o’clock. His subject will be, “The Challenge to Youth.” Dr. Gillin is the author of Poverty and Dependency, and is co-author | with Blackmar of Kansas of the Out- line of Sociology, text used in the Department of Rural Sociology here. He was the director of the Cleveland recreational survey. During the War he served as directcr of the central ‘division of the Red Cross, and after the war was educational director of the Red Cross. He is a specialist alcng the line of the pathological side of society. Sunday school classes will convene as usual this mecrning for study, and the denominational groups will hold their various programs and services tonight. Baptist Services Freshmen, don’t forget the special offering in our Sunday School class this morning, come prepared. All Baptists are urged to be in all our services tcday. We are trying to make April the best month of the year. Today is Campaign Day. Our slo- gan is “A Dollar a Man”. Help us go over the top with our offering for missions.
