Holland Will Represent College in Intercolleg- iate Debate Next Month. Intercollegiate debating will be re- vived at the A. & M. College of Tex- as on April 14 when a senior team will meet a team of Oklahoma A. & M. College in debate on the subject of the League of Nations. The A. & M. men who will represent the A. & M. College of Texas are H. V. Du Bois of Dallas and G. D. Holland of Bryan. Du Bois is a letterman in football. S. L. Fitzhugh of Waco is the alter- nate of the team. Members of the Oklahoma team have not been announced. Dr. George Summey, Jr. head of the Department of English is coach- ing the Texas A. &. M. Team. Under his direction the debating society of the College was organized with the opening of school last fall and he has continuously worked to revive inter- est in literary competition through- out the year. The debate will open at 8 o’clock in the evening in the Assembly hall. Everyone is invited to attend. i —— TWENTY STUDENTS TAKE EXAMINATIONS FOR RADIO LICENSE AT COLLEGE Twenty students of the College took the examination for radio opera- tor’s license given at the College Tuesday by Theodore G. Deiler, sup- ervisor of radio for this district. About half applied for the amatuer license and half for the commercial radio operator’s license. It is known that a number of those who took the examination for com- mercial license intend to secure em- ployment as operators during the summer, some of them on steamships for foreign cruises. Mr. Deiler expressed himself as being very well satisfied with the radio equipment at this institution. eee AGGIES MEET GEORGETOWN TEAM ON CINDER PATH The Aggies will return today from Georgetown where they went yes- terday for a dual track meet with Southwestern University. TELEPHONE OFFICIALS INTERVIEW STUDENTS ON FUTURE EMPLOYMENT | Officials of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and the allied company of the Western Electric Company left the College yesterday after a couple of days spent on the Campus as the guests of Dean F. C. Bolton to confer with seniors of elec-! trical engineering with reference to employment after graduation. Officials of the companies here were B. D. Hull, transmission engi- neer of the Bell Telephone Company Saint Louis, Mr. Holstead, Western Electric Company of Chicago, Mr. Crimp, plant engineer of the Bell Telephone Company of Dallas and Mr. March, traffic department of the Bell Telephone Company, Dallas. The Bell Telephone Company is one of the largest employers of A. & M. men of any company in the United States. When told that the Southern Pacific lines boasted of forty seven graduates of the College in their em- ploy officials of the Telephone Com- pany stated yesterday that they be- lieved they had many more graduates than that/ number; and, would make an inve tigation ‘on ‘the subject and i Wn) oneel) IT tered from New-York are in various work. Colonel Ashburn Is Initiated Into Order Fatherhood Colonel Ike S. Ashburn accepted the hand of fellowship from his Col- lege acquaintances yesterday as the usual form of acceptance into the Order of Fatherhood. In acknowledg- ing congratulations he made the proverbial boast of a “ten-pound boy”. His initiation took place at Navasota, thus deciding that the second most important record in his memoirs shall have the same setting as the first. The same succint cognomen that has featured his father’s blunt signa- ture will give the son legal designa- tion in his business, family and social affairs. Thom- sen, tf. heir, men are ‘sdat-} ofthe) ‘CONFERENCE SEASON WILL OPEN FRIDAY Rice Owls Will come for Couple of Games This Week; Farmers Should Be Able to Win One. The Aggies will open their inter- collegiate baseball season at the Col- lege Friday when they meet the Rice Owls in the first of a two-game ser- ies. The second will be played Sat- urday afternocn. It will be the first conference games for both teams. The only contest that the Owls have had previously was a victory for them against the industrial baseball team of Houston. For comparison the Farmers can point to a split series with the Waco Indians. From a survey of prospects it ap- pears that the Farmers have a very good chance to win one of the games. In Rogers the Aggies have one good pitcher that can be depended upon ordinarily to maintain strengta through nine innings. Later in the season when King Gill gets his arm in condition the Aggies may be able to annex a couple of games in suc- cession, but Gill will not be in condi- tion for another week at least. There- Tore, House will have to select his moundsmen from some second string Henchmen. Kishi, Jennings and Graves were all used in the second game against the Waco Indians last week but all three together failed to accomplish what Rogers did single handed in the first game. There was considerable.encourage- ment bestowed in the Aggie grand- stand last week by the fielding of th enew team that House has formu- lated. Particularly are the stars of last year promising. Chapman on third base covers the bag and fields batted balls with precision. Puckett in the outfield played errorless ball in covering the wide area and John- son first was steady at all times and also verged on the spectacular. The game on Friday will start at 14:10 and on Saturday at 2:30. | “Dutchy” Wilford pitched the open- ing game for the Owls last week and | will twirl one of the games at College Station. Bloxson is about the only other man who has been deemed lof sufficient ability to take turns on the mound. Both these are (Continued on Page 2 Column 3)
