TODD, Commandant. ———————————— THEME GRADING, ENGLISH 104 AND 106 (official) For the sake of maintaining a pro- per standard of freshman written work and of making the grading of papers as nearly as possible uniform | and impersonal, the following rules for the grading of themes will be made effective for all assignments! after March 25. Students are reminded that fore are assigned and corrected for the following purposes: (1) To accustom | the student to the use of English that | is not only conventionally correct but | easy, idiomatic, and expressive. (2) To encourage in every student a ha- | bit of being careful about syntax, spelling, punctuation capitalization, and handwriting or typing. (3) To | promote sound habits of reading, ob- | serving, reasoning, and planning. It is to be observed that though ordin- ary decency will assure a grade of C, the higher grades require also good matter in good English. RULES For one or more of the following, assign grade D or E. (Note A.) 1. For nonsense, confusion of thought or general lack of con- nection, serious disregard of special instructions, or inexcus- able inaccuracy in matters of fact. | 2.
