A call for agricultural scientists to go to China and help in the de- velopment of a scientific agriculture on a 250-acre experimental farm, al- most within the shadow of the Chi- nese capital city, sent out by the American headquarters of Peking University, 150 Fifth Avenue, New York, gives a challenge that is at once urgent and informative of Ori- ental conditions. The farm has been placed at the disposal of the agricultural depart- ment of the University by a public- spirited Chinese business man, to give opportunity to red-blooded mis- sionary spirited agriculturalists to ac- complish something worth while in practical commercial agriculture and scientific research under Oriental conditions and in a land where farm- ing methods have not been changed in forty centuries. Headed by Professor Chamberlain, the Department is seek- ing to build up its personnel in order to extend the scope of its experimen- tal, educational and research work. There are now three vacancies. One is in agronomy, another in ani- mal husbandry and a third in horti- culture and forestry. “We wish to | obtain men of the spirit and calibre which enables them to do things as well as talk about them”, Mr. Cham- | berlain said. “Men are wanted who | have strong character and to whom the appeal for Christian service is greater than for purely financial gain. Men are needed who have the pioneer spirit and willingness to ov- ercome obstacles and who are not too easily discouraged by difficulties. All who consider the work should be college graduates and ready to start to China this year. They should have strong physique and excellent general health. The University is offering married men who join its agricultu- ral department faculty a salary of $240 a month and unmarried men $150 a month. A furnished residence and medical and hospital fees are also provided.
