VALUABLE WHITE DENT
CORN FOR EAST
TEXAS IS DEVELOPED
The Texas Agricultural Experiment
Station, A. and M. College, during the
past seven years, has been develop-
ing at Substation No. 11, Nacogdo-
ches, Texas, an improved white dent
corn which the superintendent, Mr.
G. T. McNess, has named “Nacogdo-
ches.” This is a deep hard grain, dent
white corn with white cob, single ear
variety, but a good many stalks carry
two ears on fair soil.
This new corn is now carried by
the Texas Station as No. 4216 and is
a development from a corn known as
“Texas Blue Grain”, secured from
Mr. G. H. Reese of Nacogdoches,
Texas, in 1914. The Nacogdoches
Substation has, since that time, car-
ried this corn in its ear to row test
breeding plats and increase plats each
year. Only the highest yielders from
the ear to row test were planted. The
blue grain and red cob, which oc-
casionally appeared in the original,
have been bred out.
As improved to date, “Nacgodo-
ches” seems to be adapted to all of
that section in the vicinity of Nacog-
doches and perhaps most of the entire
region lying east of the Trinity River.
Further testing may develop its adap-
tability to a much larger region.
Seed of this improved corn will be
distributed by the Station, a limited
quantity to each applicant, at the
nominal price of $3.00 a bushel f. o.
b. Nacogdoches. Requests should be
addressed to G. T. McNess, superin-
tendent, Nacogdoches, Texas. In-
quiries for further information should
be addressed to B. Youngblood, Di-
rector.
