MARTIN Secretary of Publicity THE HABIT OF GOOD READING (Ohio State Journal) Efforts to develop the habit of reading good books are being made by the state department of educa- tion. It is one of the lines of work put under way to interest the pub- lic, the present and the prospective teacher in the public schools. It ought to bring large results, because it produces so much of value and gives the reader so much of pleasure. There are good books obtainable at low cost and they contain a wealth of delightful entertainment and ed- ucational value. So many excellent judges have compiled lists of books for general reading that one needs make no mistake in selections. State Superintendent Pearson, who has found time each day in his busy life to read part of a book, says reading is an antidote for a disagree- able old age. It is his opinion that work in the schools ought to be so di- rected that it would provoke investi- gation of books, lead the boys and girls into intimate touch with the best authors and lay the foundations for a lifetime of reading. teacher who is familiar with gool literature and has an acquaintance with the standard authors, or some of them, has an advantage over the teacher who has missed that delight But, while teachers should read that TTT TTT TRTEITEITITITTATITW. a athe als atin abe ake ateaksakaakaak RTA MIM a ate als aha ahs ake akuak; | yy he 3 Se ie ar ard ot be Sara an rg 5 di Mr 2 Mr a aa og *O a Ma a A a a og Mr a Me Mr A a Mr Sa A Na Sar Sa ar aa aa ag boat >. - of : * > s » st oe > 1 RS RS oe - oe £3 [ : nN L Y > x nN bi of *«* ole bi 4 s .e bi 48 H pod » . bs + he > + 3 > od 3 * -e pe : 5 R2 oe 3 : oe hd b oe " * ole 3 * bd YY of oe 3 + | M oo > os ole - oe os : 3 * od Ld * * oe T * "gr 34 ¥ of | * * ot > : > rd Ad oo oh 3 le oe 4 * le > ad Ss * RG RS : oe Ld 3 oo ed oo * * -. > > 3 oe bod * ge ho - od : 7 to : * + mon ar 2 : * ole he'd 3 * ole oe * oe "od * * + i h half d 3 + - i Sixes one-fourth, one-half, and one pound. & + * ole Ed 3 0 20 40 : T 10c.
