FIRST BANKER-FARMER
CONFERENCE OPENS
(Continued from Page ')
ference met in the Animal Hus-
| bandry Livestock Judging Pavilion
| where the leading characteristics of
the principal breeds of livestock
were pointed out from living speci-
mens. John C. Burns, Head of the
Department - of Animal Husbandry
took up beef cattle; J. W. Ridg-
way, Head of the Department of
Dairy Husbandry—dairy cattle; 1.
I. Miller, Professor of Sheep Hus-
bandry—sheep; D. W.
Associate Professor of Animal Hus-
bandry—hogs; and W. L. Stangel,
Associate Professor of Animal Hus-
bandry—horses.
At the conclusion of these live-
stock demonstrations ' the
and farmers were permitted to ask
questions and discuss what had been
seen and heard.
A little intermission was then
given during which time Mr.
gan, superintendent of the horse di-
vision had Bobbie Burns, the
High School Horse, perform a few
stunts; and his
bred livestock.
The crowd then retired to th:
Veterinary Building where practical
demonstrations were given on
“Prevention of Hog Cholera,” by Dr.
R. P. Marsteller, Professor of Vet-
erinary Medicine and Surgery; and
“Eradication of the Texas: Fever
Tick,” by Dr. Mark Francis, Dean of
the School of Veterinary Medicine.
This concluded the program for
the afternoon.
Seventy-four bankers and some
three hundred farmers from the sur-
rounding counties and from the more
distant parts of the state are herc
for the conference. Probably Wil-
liamson county has the largest ren-
resentation of any, but Harris is a
close competitor for the honor. Fort
Worth, Coleman, Dallas, Denton, Mec-
Gregor, Corpus Christi, Houston and
Big Springs have a good representa-
tion here.
