Five thousand copies of Bulletin |

entitled “Commercial Feeding
Stuffs,” are now ready for distribu-

“work of the Division of Feed Con-
trol Service of the Experiment Sta-

vision.
Under the Texas Feed Law this
‘service is supported primarily to pro-
tect the purchasers of feed against
adulterated and inferior articles. In-
spection of concentrated commercial
feeding stuffs on sale in the State has |
been made and in this publication the |
| cover untagged
results of the year’s work is given.
The law is simple and easily com-
plied with, requiring only honesty
on the part of the manufacturer,
importer agent or person desiring to
sell feeding stuff. Such a one de-
siring to offer feed for sale must reg-
| ister the brand with this office and
submit a representative sample for
deposit, of not less than one pound,
and bearing the name and address of

No requirement as to content of in-
| manded that the feed offered for sale
Each sack of the feed must bear
the official tag also furnished by this
division, on the reverse side of whicn
the person registering the feed must
have printed the net pounds the
package contains, brand as register-
ed, mixed ingredients, his name and
address, and guaranteed analysis.
Prosecutions are then made on the
basis of findings on inspection.
A total of 3,572,700 pounds of
feeding stuffs were withdrawn from
sale last year because of non-tagging,
misbranding, damaged, and short
veight. In most cases tags were
furnished by the manufacturers =o
shipments, others
were relabeled with official tags
showing a guarantee that could be
maintained and in still other cases
shipments were returned to, the man-
ufacturers. In many instances re-
funds were paid by manufacturers to
dealers and consumers when the de-
ficiencies were sufficient to warrant
such action. This bulletin gives the
names and addresses of the manu-
name of all such shipments, as well
as the reasons for withdrawal. Most
of these cases result from careless-
ness on the part of employes and ig-
norance of the law, but neverthe-
less, many of them were wilful viola-
tions of the law as is shown from the
number of cases that had to be re-
ported to county attorneys for con-
ducting proceedings against offend-
ers.
Thirty-five cases were thus report-
for incor-
adulteration, and |
a few are pend-
the thirty-five cases have resulted in|
conviction.
Each case is reviewed individually
in this bulletin.
