AGRICULTURAL Ip soN iS
THEME OF ADDRESS
XK. C. Davis of the Tinapp School
of I Baral Life of Peabody College,
Nashville, Tenn., yesterday i to
the students of the School of Agri-
culture on the advantages of an educa-
tion along practical lines for farmers.
Mentioning the Smith-Hughes bill
herein federal aid may be . by
communities for the work
tain industrial lines and in the teach-
ing of agriculture in the High schools
and, even before the High school is
reached, Dr. Davis urged that instead
of educating the boys of the rural dis-
tricts away from the farm, that an ef-
fort be made to educate the boys to
the farm. He showed wherein there
were. many losses incurred by the
farmer, because of the fact that he wag
not as a rule properly educated to take
advantage of the particular farm on
which he was located, and showed that
a great deal of this was due to the fact
that the boys of, the rural districts
were urged on in the matter of an
along cer-
here, the wonderful opportunity that
lies before them in entering this new
line of education, by securing the in-
terest of the community in the pro-
visions of the Smith-Hughes plan of
federal aid, and urged that the pres-
ent members of this class give some
thought to the matter in order that al
communities might be . benefitted
thereby. In this connection the losses
incurred by most farmers were men-
tioned by the speaker, and he showed
that ede all of the losses in-
curred on the. farm were due to the
fact that the farmer had not been
taught to properly account for each
particular phase of the farm work.
