Recruiters from A&M visit high schools to convey the message that A&M welcomes all students, Ashley said. “We made 13 trips. I personally made eight,” Ashley said. “I made a plea to minority students, saying, ‘Don't let any one tell you you can’t make it at A&M.’ I think the message got out there.” Ashley said he encouraged many minori ty students to actively visit the campus rather than listen to comments about A&M. “I invited a lot of kids to come and see what A&M really is. I believe more will want to come if they visit A&M.” Ashlev said. The admissions office will make admit tance decisions this week and early next week. The number of prospective Freshman is capped at 6,500, but A&M will offer admission to 10,800 prospective freshmen. “We have predicted that about 59 per cent (of those offered admission) will accept,” Ashley said.
