He described the new structure as a building set apart for clean sportsmanship and fine athletics, and christened it the “Memorial Gymna sium” in honor of the soldier dead of the college who played “the real game to a finish.” Dean Chas. E. Friley recounted those events of the past year which resulted directly in the erection of the building. Describing the organi zation of the Department of Physical Education, he detailed the importance of its work in supervising intra-mural sports and giving courses in athletic coaching. He then officially pre sented the Memorial Gymnasium to the student body and athletic teams of the College. Following his ad dress, the ceremony was closed with “The Star Spangled Banner,” ren dered by the A. and M. band. respect. If a man has enough patience to listen to a speak er until he is through, he surely can also spare a few more minutes and act, even tho he does not feel as a gentleman. A prayer like the strains of our national anthem should be enough to command everybody’s and anybody’s ATLANTA, Ga., Feb. 17.—(Special; —The Commission on Inter-racial Co operation, with headquarters in this city, announces the offer of thiee prizes of one hundred dollars, fifty dollars, and twenty-five dollars re spectively, for the three best ora tions or essays on race relations, sub mitted by students in Southern white colleges during the present school year. The only condition of entrance of any oration or essay is that it shall have been delivered on some public college occasion this year, or published in a college magazine. The contestants are free to choose any phase of the general subject of race relations and to treat it as they see fit. The purpose of the contest is to encourage study and discussion of this subject among college students. Letters announcing the offer are going out to the presidents of all the colleges in the thirteen Southern states, including Oklahoma and Ken tucky. For the information of inter ested students, the Commission is getting out also a statement embody ing full particulars as to the contest, with suggestive topics and reading list.
